Rai CGC 9.8's SUPER CHEAP & SUPER CHEAP SHIPPING
OK, time to purge the last of my Rai 9.8 CGC's. Shipping will be $5 each as I will ship Media Mail.
Rai 3 $80.00
Rai 8 $25.00
Rai 9 $25.00
Rai 11 $25.00
I'll let the Rai 8, 9, and 11 go as a set for $60, shipped. maybe that will help someone out.

media mail is a bad idea through USPS as comic books are officially not allowed, especially graded ones. there is a high likelihood that the receiver will have to pay the difference. The policy has been increasingly enforced during the last year, though I'm not sure when it started. I've just been on the receiving end numerous times.

For what reason are comic books not allowed? They are media.

It depends on the post office.lorddunlow wrote:For what reason are comic books not allowed? They are media.
Media mail is not supposed to contain advertisements.
I'm sure the intent was to keep retailers from sending hundreds of tons of catalogs as media mail.
The interpretation of the rule is up to each post office, and some think 1950s advertisements for Sea Monkeys on the backs of 50+ year old comics still count as advertising.
The Peter Principle is definitely in effect.
Other post office workers actually have a brain, or they just don't care.

That's correct. Cost of shipping depends on damages exposure. Media mail was created for shipping of papers, items of no value. Catalogs and such. At that price they can not have people claiming damages and seeking restitution.greg wrote:It depends on the post office.lorddunlow wrote:For what reason are comic books not allowed? They are media.

Comics have advertisements. They can not be shipped media mail. Trust me, we used to till our post office finally found out, and now we are not allowed to ship media mail.
Funny thing, graphic novels are ok to ship media mail (no ads).

I've shipped many comic books media mail. In fact all my binding has attn: comic books on the shipping address and I've never had an issue. I even spoke to my local PO about it and they said comic books are fine.
Graded comic books on the other hand are not. They don't consider them a book because you can't read them.

Regardless, Ed (paradise) is correct. A couple years ago, after many years of uncertainty, the USPS made an official call that comics are not eligible to be shipped media mail. This came after they started the big media mail crackdown after a number of car parts and other retailers of heavy items were found to be using Media Mail to do business.Intrepidxc wrote:Aram wrote:media mail is a bad idea through USPS as comic books are officially not allowed, especially graded ones. there is a high likelihood that the receiver will have to pay the difference. So whatever your local PO thinks, if that package is chosen for inspection at another USPS location it will either be sent back to you, sent postage-due to the destination, or destroyed. Yes, it is within the terms of mailing things media mail that they may be destroyed if undeliverable. But, very few packages are inspected, and the smaller/lighter they are the less attention they will receive.

I've heard about the crap people try and mail as media mail. Pots and Pans, car parts, etc.ckb wrote:Regardless, Ed (paradise) is correct. I would send via Priority Mail. I do not trust media mail with the shipping of valuables, especially comics books (graded or not). I want the tracking and confirmation of delivery.

You can add tracking to media mail. I do it all the time when I ship my books for binding. But I agree, if you are shipping anything you care about (non-reader raws or slabs) use priority mail.greatbrandino11 wrote:I would send via Priority Mail.
