Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Latest OTV podcast 'the state of Valiant' was excellent! Good to hear the guys discuss the good and the not so good stuff since the re-launch.
As for the 'state of Only the Valiant', I'd say the podcasts have been superb and innovative. I like the mixing up of formats (commentary, random, Ask Chiclo, Elveen and Sean at conventions etc). Really good to have Jonesy back as a regular again.

Great new episode, guys! Loved getting a recap of all things Valiant since the relaunch. It was good background listening while I put together my post about my Free View last night.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Just listened to "state of valiant" episode. Very surprised to hear some of the not so favorable reviews on books like Archer & Armstrong, and Quantum & Woody. A&A is one of my top books! and the first arc of Q&W was gold, I thought!
I agree on the Shadowman title, and very much looking forward to #13. And as far as Bloodshot, I LOVED like 1-5, then chainsaw came in. But, those issues, aside from Chainsaw were very good as well. All made a lot of sense, and are an essential building block of PRS, and the Valiant universe as a whole.

I'm gonna get Elveen's autograph at the next con, before he becomes a Hollywood sensation and doesn't have time for us little people.

1. What is your fee for autographs?
2. Does the item have to be personalized?

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Great episode guys. One thing I want to mention. I respect your integrity in your honest feelings about each book. Being a Valiant podcast and, of course, all of you being fans of Valiant, one might be tempted to just praise anything Valiant puts out. But if some book isn't doing it for you, you're not afraid to say so. With constructive criticism and not just fanboy like whining.
I use to listen to a podcast called raging bullets. About all things DC comics. Nothing against them. You could tell they care alot about comics and their show. But every single DC book they talked about was the greatest book ever put out. Which with the sheer number of books there it's hard to take them seriously.
Anyways, another great show. I agree about the accessibility of Valiant with their fans. Had at great conversation with Atom Freeman at fanexpo in Toronto. Also the few times I've sent an email to Valiant, I've always gotten I nice personal reply. Including from Dinesh himself. Recently I sent them an email regarding my first year of following the new Valiant. Not only did I get I nice reply they asked for my address as they want to send me something. You don't get that kind of interaction from other companies.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Sometimes I do wonder if I'm being a bit to harsh or judgmental.
Like I say on the show, I want to keep it 90 and be as true as I can. I also do often read the books knowing I am going to be talk/dissecting/analyzing them so I'm looking for stuff.
And YES, ALL the VEI dudes are super personable and love to talk Valiant.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Valiant is my favourite company. But that doesn't mean every book is a home run for me. I dropped Quantum and Woody. But if Comixology has a sale down the line I might give it another try. Shadowman is on probation pending how the new creative team does. All the other books are doing fine for me for now.
Was at a con recently. For fun I'm slowly starting to fill in gaps of my old Valiant runs from the 90's. My rule is only in cheap bins. I'm not paying big bucks. I picked up the Valiant era trade for $3. Got issues of HARD corps 6-29 for $5. I know I'm not expecting great stories from that series. But for that money it's just fun collecting the series. Next one I might work on is Bloodshot. As I only have issue 1 of that one. Just like every other person that collected comics in the 90's. lol

I definitely wouldn't say you were being too harsh, in fact there's probably a little space to be a bit more critical in places.Elveen wrote:Sometimes I do wonder if I'm being a bit to harsh or judgmental.

In addition, next time you interview Dinesh or one of the other VEI big hitters I'd like you guys to maybe give them more challenging questions eg there's been too many (glaring) editing errors, what's in place to reduce them in future? We all want the best for VEI and sometimes highlighting weaknesses improves standards.
Keep up the 90 Elveen (although I'm not entirely sure what it means!).

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
+1 - someone needs to be willing to give constructive feedback where its warranted, and I'm sure that the guys at VEI want to hear it. If something is falling flat, they're gonna want to know so they can react & improve for the fans. And you know all those guys are very proud of their work [and deservedly so]. I think anyone who works within that frame of mind wants to do the best work they can. The OTV crew is in a sweet position to deliver that feedback, I'm sure even hard core fanboys still appreciate hearing some honesty in your critiques. Keep it coming.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:I definitely wouldn't say you were being too harsh, in fact there's probably a little space to be a bit more critical in places.Elveen wrote:Sometimes I do wonder if I'm being a bit to harsh or judgmental.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
I'd like to think the current Shadowman team, especially de la Torre, was partly due to the outcry and demand from Valiant fans. That's what I like to tell myself, anyway.grendeljd wrote:+1 - someone needs to be willing to give constructive feedback where its warranted, and I'm sure that the guys at VEI want to hear it. Nope, nope, nope. Baby Kal-el on Krypton is just as weak as baby Bruce Wayne on Earth. Even just after arrival on Earth, Kal-el wouldn't have had time to soak up enough Vitamin D to gain much in the way of powers. Actually, you raise valid points! There are some parameters to this discussion which were not set down before Chiclo set down the law & proclaimed Supes the winner...Phoenix8008 wrote:Ah... We need to establish some variables here, like for instance, are all of these men exactly the same age or relatively close? Were they all infant babies at the same time of said fight, or are we assuming they were all kidnapped as part of some time-travelling caper instigated by >insert evil villain here< to ensure they were all the same age for this 'battle'?
Does this battle take place on earth or krypton before it exploded?
I'm still siding with Chiclo regardless - assuming they are all of equal age and on earth, Supes would have absorbed a little vitamin D, Hal Jordan would have no ring, and Bruce Wayne would still have no concept of becoming Batman (& would have no physical training or detective 'smarts' yet).

Guess we'll have to wait & see on this one - we don't know if Archer was engineered to be what he is, or manipulated in some manner to become the psiot he (maybe?) is today...hawkeyeps wrote:I think the real question is could baby Archer beat baby Superman?![]()
