The Geomancer Comic

Post by swtor1091 »

I am going to send in a submission to Valiant Comics of a comic I want to make for them off a great character that hasn't been given the limelight all the much. Now they say best idea wins so my hope is that I send the pitch and they'll overlook that the only things I have written are the various Novels i have written (which are stashed away because i am to scared to send them to a publishing company). to see if my pitch was worth it I decided to throw it at you guys and see what you all think. Most of you have been Valiant fans a lot longer and as all of you know I don't read the old stuff haha but I would for research of course even given the gig. So i give to you... THE GEOMANCER!!!!!

In the year 4001 A.D. (Since we have no idea what the 4001 timeline looks like this may change) the Earth has been stripped bare. All natural resources exhausted and drained. The world has been utterly changed over the years through the discovery of Psiots and sentient cities. The Earth however is dying and for this reason the Earth has lost the strength to fight. To talk. To create another Geomancer.
Clay McHenry the descendant of Kay McHenry one of the most powerful Geomancers as gone about his day trying to survive. Forced to retire early after he lost his eyesight after a psiot attack all he longs to do is redeem himself from the crooked things he has done through the course of his career.
One day he gets his wish as the Earth comes to him and tells him that he is the last chance for her survival. That for her sake he must find the lost book of the Geomancers and find Gilad Anna Paddi once known as the Eternal Warrior to help him but bigger things are in play that he has no idea of because of the Earth lives than so does her enemies.

There's not much here :?

All you've done is take an existing VH1 character and plug him into VEI.

If you're interested in writing as more than just a hobby, I suggest going back to basics and familiarizing yourself with proper grammar again. It is an absolute chore to read under-punctuated sentences because, as a reader, you've given me the task of adding in the commas as I read.

It would be far more interesting if you'd added some more details about the overall theme of the book and tightened up what you do have. In one line, you're telling us the Earth is tired, too tired to fight or talk or create a Geomancer. Shortly thereafter you say the Earth speaks to Clay. This is a bit of a contradiction, and with nothing else to support the progression, can only be viewed as such.
What of Clay? What was his occupation and what was so crooked?

There's noting wrong with spitballing ideas but give us more.

I doubt VEI would even read an unsolicited pitch, especially from someone who isn't an established writer. There are legal issues if they have plans to publish something remotely similar to what you pitch, so chances are they'd just discard it. (Check out Dysart's comments in his thread in the Spoilers section.)

Ideas are cheap. If you want to write for Valiant, you're going to first have to prove that you can write.

The best two avenues to explore:
1: Find an art partner and create a comic to establish that you have what it takes to write comics.
2: Submit something through the Kindle Worlds route. At least then you know it will actually be read.

All of this is in addition to the above comments pointing out that there's no there there.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

There's simply not enough in this to make it a pitch. Like the others have said, you need to fix your grammar and punctuation so it's easy to read. You also need to actually put information into a pitch; stuff like who, what, where, when and how. What direction do you plan on taking this series? Possible repercussions, both short term and long term.

I would recommend you writing stories for their Amazon Worlds; they already said their editors would be reading thru those. I highly doubt they would accept a pitch from someone with no writing history to show. Take advantage of Amazon Worlds to show them you understand their characters.

Although none of the above, I quite liked it when I got around to reading it. :)
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month
