This looks good, and I love Pak, but I've not read any of the old stuff. I'm not familiar with their history. Ugh. I'm going to eBay and finding a bunch of VH1 stuff, or whatever it's called.

I still gotta believe that many LCS shoppers will see this and think "What? Again? Already?"
They might be understanding of why Valiant might bring the titles back into the fold since there's a history there, but failing that it's gonna smack of the Dark Key debacle.
I'll wait till they're a few arcs in to see if they get sterling reviews and pick them up on Ebay later, so I'm adopting a wait and see approach.

"awkwaaaard"
I'm surprised that they haven't put these titles under a sub imprint and called it Valiants or Valiums or something.
No disrespect to the writers and artists and such, and I know that imitation is a form of flattery, but come on enough is enough.
These characters if done right shouldn't need all this blatant plagiarising of ideas.
I could imagine in the offices of D.E. Entertainment:
What writers and Artists do we use? - Who do Valiant use.
When do we announce new titles? - When Valiant have a big Comicon event.
What gimmick do we use to sell a #1? - What did Valiant do.
What do we do this week? - What are Valiant doing.
I read some of D.E. Entertainment's other titles, but be damned if I will read any of their Gold Key titles.
Just call it my own little protest. No money for you D.E.
I know I know, I am being petty about it, but I'll wear that badge of pettiness with pride

Can someone tell me or link me to exactly how Dynamite / VIP acquired the rights to publish these from Dark Horse, Classi Media or whoever had them?

Is it me or is it slightly fanboyish in here?....well anyways, i'm still gonna buy it
I like Turok and I like Greg Pak...so it's a good combination in my mind. Although I don't like that Turok looks "boyish" he should look manly and awesome like he did in VH1

You are probably right in what you are saying Blujay regards the fanboy statement (particularly my rant ), and if Turok, Magnus and Solar were favourite characters of mine, I guess I would relent as well.blujay wrote:Is it me or is it slightly fanboyish in here?....well anyways, i'm still gonna buy it

I personally don't agree with how D.E. have done things regards the Gold Key characters and wont buy these titles, though that will not stop me buying some of their other titles.
Each to their own though, and luckily we all have that choice

Re: Ugggh.....here we go again with the Gold Key chars......
Let DE publish them. For me, it's too soon after Shooter's Dark Horse stuff. I enjoyed the Dark Key books, but don't have any interest in reading these characters just yet. I have absolutely no reason to believe that these books will last ll that much longer than the Dark Horse stuff did, so what's the point.
My reaction (or lack thereof) to this announcement has shown me that I really only care about these characters as part of the Valiant universe. And the Valiant universe is doing just fine without them.
Meh.

I'm pretty sure VEi didn't invent returnable comics, incentive covers, or kid covers.BugsySig wrote:Returnability, retailer incentive covers, even a kid-Turok cover...They really are trying to piggy-back on VEI, huh?
I know these types of incentives aren't exclusive to VEI, but first they lure over VEI writers, try to take their artists too, and now this?
Luckily Dynamite's past practices lead me to believe these books will not last very long as they fall to delays, crappy quality and eventual cancellation.
Too bad we won't be seeing these characters done right over at VEI any time soon. Would have been nice.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.

Maybe they have some sort of split licensing deal since Dynamite now have all their Digital comics released through the Dark Horse site:BugsySig wrote:Havent seen an article that says how. Re: Ugggh.....here we go again with the Gold Key chars......
Oh dear, good thing this is the last 'Valiant-associated' title they're able to publish, as the Valiant ripping-off is starting to get a bit tedious now.
The previous post about "Let's do what Valiant are doing" really seems like a likely scenario to me. But I did laugh at the possibility for countless numbers of Turok #1s flooding the market again.
"I bought a shortbox full of Turok #1 back in the 90's... I think I'm gonna do it again!"
On that first interior page... Gotta love that cumface
Bet he made the same sound that's in the title of this thread.
"I LOVE killing dinosaurs! ........Ugggh!"

If not wanting to buy a book from a company because you don't like their business practices is "fanboyish" then i'm guilty as charged.

Also I can understand people having personal issues with D.E. (which few have expressed) but a lot of people here seem to be asserting that DE "is in the wrong" or "up to no good" (paraphrasing), why is that exactly?
Could it be a shared license? I'm not sure if there even is such a thing but..vikingspawn wrote:Maybe they have some sort of split licensing deal since Dynamite now have all their Digital comics released through the Dark Horse site:BugsySig wrote:Havent seen an article that says how. Meh, Turok was always Meh. I take the dynamite launch to be something good. Basically I see it as dynamite saying, "Wow, look at those successful VEI sales! Maybe we can drum up some business by jumping on the Valiant bandwagon!"

That's how I see it too. Imitation and flattery blah blah blah. Just after a while you gotta come up with something on your own.Intrepidxc wrote:Meh, Turok was always Meh. It would be one thing if it was just the marketing techniques. It's nothing new to copy successful marketing, but the combination of that, the trade dress, the recruitment of VEI creators, etc, that makes you start to scratch your head after a while.

Was Gk turok good? I love the gk Magnus, but thought gk solar was meh and couldn't read it. I love the covers for gk turok but haven't read it yet unless you count the vh1 original turok and that's been too long ago to remember anything.
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

As much as I want the Gold Key's back with Valiant, I do hope this book is successful if only for Greg Pak's sake. I do really enjoy his work, and especially his work on Eternal Warrior.
