I do agree with kjjohanson that Renee Rousseaux has got to be the dumbest choice for a character name for a VEI character.

that. was. excellent. Loved it. Ninjak is amazing, but simply outclassed by Aric. But so amazing. did I mention he's amazing? I actually dug all those panels that explained his abilities/technology.
Yeah, this was badass! The only problem is waiting a whole month for the next one!

It may be cheesy, but maybe that's on purpose. She's a food blogger. It's not a stretch to think that she came up with that name on her own to be catchy or stand out or whatever. Maybe that's her real last name and she added Renee to it to be clever.lorddunlow wrote:I do agree with kjjohanson that Renee Rousseaux has got to be the dumbest choice for a character name for a VEI character.

Hey, great colour work [as usual] on the book Brian!Reber wrote:Those were just "proof of concept" pages really. We did them up for a preview but went in a different direction in the end.Bl00dsh0t wrote:I remember seeing a preview image for Unity where Harada was looking at some Valiant characters in floating cubes - Shadowman, Bloodshot, and Bleeding Monk were pictured if memory serves me right - having read Unity #1 I gather this image will appear in later Unity books??? Any one else notice this?

It looks to me like you coloured over Doug's straight-up pencils, with no inking? Good choice, I thought it worked really well [and probably saves a ton of time for everybody]. I'm actually a huge fan of colours over pencils whenever I see it done well in any comic [Doug Wheatley's work on Dark Horse's Star Wars comes to mind as a top example, before he switched to digital drawing].
I'm curious - who designed all the electronic screen graphic elements in the book? They look awesome too, especially on the last panel of p17 with Ninjak in his stealth drone.

Re: UNITY #1 Discussion
I wish I liked this book more. To me it was fairly bland. This should have been the best book of the month, but I didn't even think it was the best book of the week (I thought Archer & Armstrong and Harbinger were both way better).
The first couple of pages make the food critic seem very important, but she disappears. Where did she go?
Why does the Harbinger vessel look so silly? It looks more alien than the ship from Loam.
There are a lot of large non-action panels without a lot of dialogue in the middle of the book. Those pages could have been condensed.
The graphics from Ninjak's plane should be a mirror image from our perspective, unless Ninjak reads backwards.
I disagree with others about the inking. There were times I wasn't sure who I was looking at.
The Harbinger "Unity" team's demise was not even close to a surprise. And how could a skull go through another human being and be so well intact?
Ninjak was awesome in this story, I want more of that.
I like Livewire and I'm looking forward to more of her in the next issue.

^^^ I think all the above points are valid.
I still enjoyed it, and can't wait to see more, but this is not a book I would recommend to someone as the #1 AWESOME BOOK OF THE MONTH the way I would Harbinger or Archer & Armstrong.

Re: UNITY #1 Discussion
Been gone a while but I'm back. Had to after this tremendously badass Valiant issue.
Two things:
1) Ninjak is awesome
2) I want Rai and I want him NOW
Oh and one more thing actually, so SPOILER: I think Harada is using Unity to procure the Manowar armor for himself. I think that's why the solicits have the Unity team divided. I wouldn't put it past that scumbag.

I think it was the 3rd best title released this week
I still really enjoyed it
But it was fairly predictable .. with no real surprises
We have been discussing what Unity can mean for months ... Erica Pierce, Rai, Far Far Away, Some grand connection between all the characters ... etc
And what we got was a continuation of an X-O storyline which is good ...but was hoping for more

This is what I was hoping for with the 1st issue ... a real battle royale with the big boys

Re: UNITY #1 Discussion
I can understand the criticisms of this first issue and agree that Harbinger and A&A were both better than it this week. But I would say that they are only better because they are continuations of stories that have been built up for the last year and a half so they carry more weight and mean more to us. We should instead compare how we feel about this #1 issue to how we felt about the #1 issues of Harbinger, or A&A, or any of the others to rank it fairly. Back when we didn't know anyting but what that first issue of those other series had between the covers. It wasn't perfect, but I liked what was there and I'm eagerly looking forward to more.
