I was stupid

Post by propita »

My husband and I got into comics around 1990. We checked out Diamond and Capitol (those were the two, right?) every month. When he saw that 'Magnus' was coming back, he ordered two copies. We also tried the other Valiant titles that were starting.

I liked 'Solar' and 'Harbinger'. We ended up with all the titles for quite some time, then lost interest. We also got alot of gold issues from the store owner, since we did the comic ordering for him and he didn't want the golds (he sold books and collectibles, comics was minor for him--he mostly filled orders and had the most popular available for non-orderers).

I got a few signed issues (an 'Archer and Armstrong' and 'Eternal Warrior' signed by Jim Shooter; some others too). There are holes in my collection and some doubles--especially of early issues, but I don't really care.

I should have sold my extras when they bubbled. In LA, people were offering $80 for early 'Harbinger's and 'Magnus' waaaay back when. That's PER COMIC! I should have sold my extra issues then--even $50/comic and 1-6 would have been $300. I was stupid and greedy and kept them all. And then the bubble burst. So they're all in boxes in clean and dry basement.

Welcome to the boards!

You are one of the few female posters we have here (assuming you are the wife of your husband and you aren't both husbands and weren't married by the mayor of San Fran. And if you are, that's fine too).

It's nice to be welcomed so warmly.

Yes, I am the female half of a male-female marriage.

We have tons of comics from the early 90's (about 5000 or so), but had to stop collecting when hubby went back to school.

As for the 'female perspective,' I can only give my own--and I don't seem to be a very typical female. But anyway, if people would be so kind as to point out where on these boards I should especially look, I'd appreciate the help.

Look through the General Discussion threads and the registered member section for most of the Valiant info you want to know. If you can't find your answer just ask a question and I'm sure more than one of us can help.

If you are looking to sell or trade there is a section for that too. You can also click on 'price guide' underneath the message board logo in the upper left corner to get the latest pricing info.

There are a few or more "weird" threads lurking in the deep waters here. I just felt it was fair to warn her.

Welcome aboard, propita. I am still catching up to all the new posts every day (some of these guys are prolific posters) so I can't help you on where to look for old info. I usually luck out when somebody links to an old topic and I read it then, but until I get some serious "nothing-else-to-do" time, I'm the same boat as you.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
