Also, I wonder if there is any significance to the 2515 score on the 8-bit cover for this one?
:funnypost:

Solid issue again from VDitti! More layers, more characters as the 'world of XO' continues to build.

Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but if Unity is an ongoing title how will this effect XO's ongoing continuity? :?

Anyway, 3.5/5 for issue 18 :thumb:
The next few issues will look at the Unity issues from Aric's perspective. After that, I suspect the Unity team will turn their attention somewhere else.
I hope so! I don't want a Marvel/DC scenario where characters appear in multiple books as it messes up continuity. But then, what about Eternal Warrior, will he be appearing in 2 monthlies?
Well the current EW arc takes place before the "present day" as it is before his first appearance in A&A. The next arc shifts to the 4001 future, so that should free up some time for him to appear in Unity.

Eternal Warrior's current arc is a mix of the recent past and the not so recent past. His next arc will be a mix of 4001 and the present (with Kay McHenry featured I think).

If two books featuring the same character are taking place in the present, I think editorial will make them sync up (like Harbinger Wars or the Upcoming Unity/XOManowar crossover).

Good points Bugsy and Carson, hopefully continuity stays easy to follow. Also it reduces the chances of (more?) continuity 'blips'.

I thought this as well, particularly when Aric's flashback was told. I thought this artwork was a shade too cartoony.

Not a big criticism mind you, I still enjoyed the artwork, the story was good, Volo is backing his words up with action and seems to have a more rational approach for what is best for the refugees than does Aric.

Of course Aric does not do peace well, but excels in war. Perhaps Aric could consult with Volo and his people in both, then he may realise that their course, and Aric's determination to right past wrongs, may not follow the same path.

This is a very good lead up to Unity and I look forward to reading this arc in full again.

Very harsh interrogation for shoplifting methinks, I know..... lame :P

I think vivisecting people for petty crimes is how Spetsnaz says, "hello."

jmatt wrote: Oh, and thank you Valiant for not printing the barcodes on the cover! Big win there.
This x infinity! That is a huge turn off to me, when a barcode ruins the front cover. Marvel's covers kill me with all their campaigning, barcodes, logos and ads on the cover. It definitely has an impact on my purchases.

Regarding the issue itself, I was very happy with it. Writing was spot on, and other than the flashback, I loved the art. And I didn't hate the flashbacks, just not quite as awesome.

Volo is proving to be an interesting character and I'm truly glad to see the Visigoth people being more than a set piece.

My only gripe was the major conflict scene. I feel like the lack of Visigoth death took some of the impact out of it. That was an opportunity for Aric to really have a conflict with Volo.

Overall 9/10.

Hope Volo survives the upcoming Unity onslaught, he's providing an interesting challenge and contrast to Aric's leadership.

It's been mentioned before, but I'll second it, is there no end to the Harada's sphere of influence?
An amazing reach, and actually, given his 'help' to the Americans and the Russians' response, I wouldn't be surprised if Harada was playing both ends against each other here in order to further his own goals.

Solid ending to this set-up arc. :thumb:
