Gold Key
So now that dynamite has the gold key characters, does anyone see a cross over in the future?

Re: Gold Key
The indications and statements publicly from VEI indicate 'no'.
Never say never, but objectively I think it would little for VEI when considered against the risks of working with DE as a publisher )given DE's issues with timeliness).

Re: Gold Key
That is the best response. Let them fail. For the FIFTH time. Then - if someone were interested in selling them - then they MIGHT be interested.
Frankly, I think that a crossover without ownership would hurt Valiant in the long run. DON'T cross over. Die. Again. Then, buy em up cheap.

Re: Gold Key
Good point; but was that more akin to repackaging for other means than failure leading to relaunch? Hmm. Debate time.mateo107 wrote:aren't you forgetting Acclaim?leonmallett wrote: 1960's, early 1980's GK brief revival, VALIANT, Dark Horse.

If being technical, you could even split Gold Key up, too.

I wouldn't count their VALIANT tenure as a failure. They sold millions of books. The others, sure.kevinbastos wrote:Gold key, valiant, acclaim, dark horse.blujay wrote:Fifth time? What were the other four? That is the best response. Let them fail. For the FIFTH time

Honestly, the only one I consider a failure is Dark Horse. That was a disaster! At least the other attempts ran for a while.

Are we counting VH1 as a failure? If anything I would count that one as a (short lived) success, being that it revived the properties and brought them to a new generation (plus iirc they sold decently).leonmallett wrote:1960's, early 1980's GK brief revival, VALIANT, Dark Horse.blujay wrote:Fifth time? Re: Gold Key
+1 more, with the caveat that I'm not even really eager for them to be folded into the universe after the fact. What would that do to the 4001 timeline they're already crafting to show us in EW 5-8? Solar definately wouldn't be the originator of the universe this time around. I could totally live without those characters ever again connecting to VEI's material, but IF they can buy them outright later, then I'd be willing to consider them if they have good concepts.jmatt wrote:+1kevinbastos wrote:Frankly, I think that a crossover without ownership would hurt Valiant in the long run. Re: Gold Key
I can agree that a crossover in the VEI universe would be a bad idea unless it had no affect on continuity and would never be referenced again. if VEI ever did acquire those characters, it would be awkward trying to explain that one time that they met before that didn't really count.
however, wouldn't anybody be interested in a "crossover" set in the original VH1 universe?

As for failures I say Acclaim and DH. The original GK and VH1 stuff were great.

Re: Gold Key
VEI already said that (Q2 excepted) they have no plans to revisit the original continuity. While it might interest fans, I think they'd rather focus their resources on growing the new continuity, especially if revisiting the original continuity entails splitting the profits with another company that had nothing to do with the original continuity.mateo107 wrote:I can agree that a crossover in the VEI universe would be a bad idea unless it had no affect on continuity and would never be referenced again. if VEI ever did acquire those characters, it would be awkward trying to explain that one time that they met before that didn't really count.

Re: Gold Key
How about just facilitating the reprinting of VH1 Gold Key? Surely sharing some of the profit/expense on that would be better than nothing for VEI...I know I'd buy VALIANT Masters: Solar Man of the Atom and VALIANT Masters: Magnus Robot Fighter.kjjohanson wrote:VEI already said that (Q2 excepted) they have no plans to revisit the original continuity.
