Re: The FUTURE is NOW!!!! 4001 is coming....
Like I said before, the Clayton Crain cover reminds me a lot of the Metabarons. Anyone read it? Every Metabaron has some sort of mechanical body part. It looks like Gilad has a mechanical body part as well?
To toot my own horn, in the creator wishlist thread I said Jodorowsky & Gimenez on a future book. While it's not actually them, looks like I could have influenced the direction.
Top that with Justin Jordan having made a Prophet like pitch for Rai and I'm going to say I bet this will be a good bit different than VH1's future timeline. Although, Jordan isn't involved, his pitch could still have influenced the direction. To me, "King" Gilad looks nothing like a character we would have seen in VH1's future timeline.
I agree that I prefer not to see the Gold Key characters unless VEI owned them outright.
And once again, that Crain cover is just

By the way the description for NY Comicon website mentions surprise guests for the Valiant Panel..Does this mean new creative team for maybe Rai?? "Squeee"

I'm pretty sure that is going to be the original creative team for Q&W (I forget their names). I'm almost positive that they are going to announce some form of release that is going to complete the old story arc that was never finished.Manaf82 wrote:By the way the description for NY Comicon website mentions surprise guests for the Valiant Panel..Does this mean new creative team for maybe Rai?? Re: The FUTURE is NOW!!!! 4001 is coming....
I did that until A+A #1.. then that killed it for me, as that book very much upset me. I've found waiting for the trades makes it way more enjoyable for me on almost every title from any publisher, but especially on the new Valiant.Carson wrote:Aram wrote:I avoid this section.. but I had to check this thread..
This might be the turning point to get me back into reading VEI books as they come out again, instead of just buying them, putting them away and waiting for the trades.
Wow. I do that with the other publisher's books, but I read my VEI right away!
I get the whole picture at once that way and don't have time to get upset about little things I dislike in a story that might fester for a month otherwise, but be forgotten almost immediately if the story progressed further.
I honestly have read very little outside of tpbs/hcs in the last 10 years.. though I've bought around 3000+ books.

The biggest books that I've gone out of my way to read recently has really only been Saga and Quantum and Woody, but I'm behind on even Q+W.

It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

To me that's the most exciting part of this new 4001, while I've heard some criticisms of VEI on this board that they are just "reimagining" or "recreating" what has already been (which I would argue is necessary albeit not necessarily true), this is their chance to create a part of their universe without any past baggage.jmatt wrote:Smelled like it to me.leonmallett wrote:But long term something that cannot really be built on (packaging books for collected editions; referencing events/characters). If VEI can't own and control Magnus entirely then I actually hope they decide to take the 4001 line in a completely new direction without milespires and such. It would actually present Valiant with a good opportunity to create entirely new title characters.
I'd have to disagree with that, I had heard (cuz I never read them) that the quality of the dark key books wasn't up to snuff. But knowing the A-list talent that Dynamite has gathered here I think success will be very likely. I think I'll probably be picking up a few of these, specifically Turok, Spektor and Solarjmatt wrote:I can't see how it can survive for long without the old VH1 fanbase boosting its numbers. Dark Key proved it was impossible to pull of even with the allure of Shooter at the helm. But now with so many readers who gave it a chance with DK now sitting on copies of yet another dead universe, it's gonna be once bitten, twice shy.
But who knows? I see FVL is involved and wish him only the best.

In Warren Simons office, I saw an EW cover with the EE (Eternal Emperor) on horseback. It looked very much like Frazetta's "Death Dealer". I don't recall anyone traveling on horseback in the VH1 4001 timeline. Here's to hoping for something new...leonmallett wrote:Just have to agree; familiar but new both at the same time.

The real problem with Dark Key was the epic 2-6 month waits between issues. If they had been able to ship on any sort of schedule, it would have been more successful.blujay wrote:To me that's the most exciting part of this new 4001, while I've heard some criticisms of VEI on this board that they are just "reimagining" or "recreating" what has already been (which I would argue is necessary albeit not necessarily true), this is their chance to create a part of their universe without any past baggage.jmatt wrote:Smelled like it to me.leonmallett wrote:But long term something that cannot really be built on (packaging books for collected editions; referencing events/characters). IIRC, they said that each arc is going to feature Gilad in two time periods, and that Kay returns in the "present" portion of the 4001 arc.

I've said it elsewhere already but I must say it again here - I'm really elated over this news, especially on the heels of the news about the Gold Key characters. I have always felt that the VEI 4001 era (as well as the present day VEI universe) will hold its own without them, and I'm glad to see them moving forward with it right when we hear the GK catalogue is now unavailable to them anyway. Well timed, I say!

Re: The FUTURE is NOW!!!! 4001 is coming....
Since the current arc in Eternal Warrior must end in #4 and is set in the "past" of the new relaunch (it must be the earliest issue chronologically, ignoring the first issue of X-O Manowar or the flashbacks in Harbinger and the various zero issues, I suppose), and this new arc starting in #5 is set in 4001, I'm guessing that the third story arc will finally pick back up with the present of Gilad and Kay McHenry.ThatDarnCabbage wrote:So are we never going to see Kay McHenry again? I'd rather just have one solid timeline, I feel it's easier to connect with the stories than t way. I know we'll see more of current EW in Unity, and I'll still be continuing to get this series, as with every Valiant book, but I'm cautious about this direction.

The Eternal Emperor artwork on that cover gives me intense Warhammer 40K vibes...
