Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
look quite promising. still...
it's a shame, that it's not happening at valiant. that's the "still".
all those "we're better off without those characters"-slogans, they're not worth anything the time you realize this chance has now passed up for good. and when you see how cool new versions of the gold key characters could turn out. also, solar and especially magnus have really strong concepts and a rich and ancient history which could have give vei a certain weightiness (if this makes any sense)...
however, i will give those dynakeys a shot.

Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
let's face facts....these are great characters. Especially Magnus and Solar. I would love to read great stories about these characters again, so I'm rooting for some positive results here.
Spooooon!!!!
Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
I'll probable pick these up. Always liked the characters, would have preferred them at Valiant but only if Valiant owned them and not licensed them. Although I definitely won't be dropping any Valiant to make room for them.

Still not worth it, unless they could have bought the properties outright or the licensing was open-ended (i.e. that the rights would never revert as long as VEI kept publishing them). Having to fix your universe when you suddenly lose the rights to key characters (no pun intended) would be a nightmare.krylox wrote:all those "we're better off without those characters"-slogans, they're not worth anything the time you realize this chance has now passed up for good. and when you see how cool new versions of the gold key characters could turn out..

Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
I agree with that. I'm constantly going back and forth on this because I don't think Valiant needs these characters, but at the same time I want to see them back in the Valiant universe.kjjohanson wrote:Still not worth it, unless they could have bought the properties outright or the licensing was open-ended (i.e. that the rights would never revert as long as VEI kept publishing them). Either way, I'll probably pick these books up, but without them being associated with Valiant or Shooter it's not something I'm particularly excited about.

Just like the Dark Horse stuff, I'm not really interested.
I've always been a Valiant fan. I guess it kind of like a sports team.
I'm a Lakers fan, and when we had Dwight Howard last year I was a fan, now that he is on the Rockets.....
Dwight Howard = super baby, unachiever, weak minded, false strength.

I can see me diggin them out of cheap bins down the road, but maybe not even that.
Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
Yeah, the battle tunic was a good way to show that it was set in a world with different fashion. This looks more like they don't really dare to make it too different from our world. I will miss the tunic. Still, nice art. And Magnus did have pants in the Whitman version also (the backup stories in late Dr Solars).Chiclo wrote:No battle tunic. Magnus is in pants.
Weak.
Interesting that the Turok cover by Sears is a homage to Valiant's Turok 1.
Most important: How do I get in touch with Cory Smith? Seems there's two Cory Smith at NYCC and the one who is doing sketches at table J-13 looks like our man. Anyone can score a skecth for me?

Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
My feelings as well. I've never read any of their original GK stories so what I've read of them so far in their VH1 incarnation is 'my' version of those characters. It's weird to read differing versions of the same character(s) even though that's to be expected given their licensing aspect. It would be better if someone would just buy them outright.Elveen wrote:Just like the Dark Horse stuff, I'm not really interested.

So this means no one is looking forward to the inevitable Dynamite/Valiant crossover? That last interview question raises all sorts of speculation.

No. I don't see why VEI would want that. I'm not interested. I think VEI has TONS of good stories and characters to yet tell and use.
Crossover with a company that has been a thorn in their side and is competition with them = No!
A crossover with characters that most view as part of "Valiant" and that they could not get, now to purposely bring attention to them being used by another company = No!
(stops foot) "no no no!"

I don't see that happening.. but man would that be a perfect way to tie things together with the GK3..The Beyonder wrote:Only if it's called Deathmate.String wrote:So this means no one is looking forward to the inevitable Dynamite/Valiant crossover? Call it deathmate... but actually make it the original UNITY storyline!
Everything happens in the lost land.. so both universes are relatively safe from any lasting effects.

Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
I would be excited if it happened, and considering the people working on the books also work at VEI, it could be done rather easily. They're right, though, that it takes time to let the characters get established first. And with Dynamite, you never know if a book will last 4 issues or 15 issues or stick around long term. They don't have the best track record.String wrote:So this means no one is looking forward to the inevitable Dynamite/Valiant crossover? That last interview question raises all sorts of speculation.

Future crossover (Other then the writers)? Hope so, I'd like to see the two companies try to connect them in one way or another.
Either way I love these characters and I think the writers will be able to do them right!

Re: NYCC EXCLUSIVE: GOLD KEY REVIVED AT DYNAMITE
I'll give Solar and Magnus a try ... never really liked Turok that much even with Valiant. But I don't expect these to do all that well.
