Re: Valiant In Europe
Seems to me that Valiant are 'starting out' in Europe in just the same way they started out in the States, beginning with translations of just X-O and Harbinger. I'm sure that provided they sell well enough they'll introduce more lines in those languages and then branch out into new languages.Burrito Boy wrote:What, no Spanish?
I understand starting with French as it's spoken in a surprisingly high number of countries worldwide, yet Italian confuses me slightly... The only thing that springs to mind is that Italy is one of the few European countries where no one really bothers to learn English, so perhaps that's how Valiant will corner the market there: publish in Italian.
Aside from French, Spanish and German are the next two major European languages, so are likely to be considered for the next round of translations should there be one. Spanish in particular I would guess is likely, as then that then also opens up the Central and Southern American markets should Valiant decide to try and sell there.

Definitely. Might just as well buy an English issue, Tippex out all the text and then just write random letters in the bubbles instead - Instant Welsh.Phantom wrote:Ian wants welsh. Rarer than bloodshot platinum for print run

I'm still waiting on the Canadian translated editions of the VEI books, where everyone says eh, eh? And other Canadianisms like Pardon My French, Please, Thank You, You First, No You First, etc.

Re: Valiant In Europe
The first batch of new Valiant titles in spanish will be arriving soon. The format will be hardcover TPBs collecting 5 issue arcs. Titles confirmed so far: Bloodshot, Harbinger and X-O Manowar
I really hope things work well with Valiant this time in Spain. Only time will tell if spanish readers decide to make room for the Valiant Heroes beside their traditional Marvl-DC alignment.
Best regards,
Alex

Oh, that's interesting. I know the French and Belgians prefer their comics bound in hardcovers, so perhaps the Spanish do as wellcornflakeboy wrote:The first batch of new Valiant titles in spanish will be arriving soon. Re: Valiant In Europe
Actually it has more to do with the publishers and production procedures. It's actually more worthy for them to publish tpbs than single comic book issues since newsstands are long gone as a sales point and the profitability of the "classic" 24 page comic book came from large print runs. Since the super-hero comic book reading community has stalled and fewer and fewer new readers are joining the hobby, the average print runs are 1000-1500 copies with reprints ordered only in the event of "surprise" hits (wich are not that usual). The hardcover treatment makes possible to get new releases in the current "graphic novel" vibe and, well, older readers prefer "quality" additions and, anyway, currently most superhero comic books go the "story-arc" way so it kinda makes sense to be able to read the whole story instead of having to wait for the installments.
Best regards,
Alex

Spain is getting the TPBs only, apparently.
EDIT- Yeah, I think that the French, Spanish and Italian market are not getting any monthlies. I see that Spain (at least) had a VALIANT 0 which was basically a preview of all the 2012 summer books.
