My story...
Was an avid comics reader in the late 80's through most of the 90's. started off reading E&A's TMNT and Iron Man. During the alcoholic Stark storyline. Started reading Spidey and Early run back issues of Avengers. When the comics boon began and Image and Valiant and the Ultraverse sprouted up, I began expanding my reading. Was a fan of the Valiant Turok, and loved Harbinger, but with so many comics in my monthly pull, and declining quality of all comics, I just lost interest. I stopped reading Harbinger with issue 25? When Pete finally bested Harada. After the debacle of the Spidey clone saga I gave up comics entirely. Recently, about the middle of June 2013, Igot a hankering to read some Rocketeer. I went online to find some and was amazed to find new adventures being produced by IDW, who I found out was in the monthly business now. (I was familiar with their hardcover collections of Dick Tracy which I had been purchasing for my father). In a small article underneath, was mention of XO manowar. I had thought ( rightly) that Valiant was defunct for quite some time. But learned of the relaunch. I rushed to my LCS. But could only find sporadic copies, 2,4,5,9,10 you get the drift I left quite disappointed, until I looked online and found the TPB's to my surprise, VEI was printing ALL of their titles in TPB form. Sure it's months behind current storyline, but they're printing entire arcs, so that's okay. Now I read all their titles, albeit TPB form, and am admittedly disappointed I'm not current. But to say, pick up a Harbinger post HWars, would be silly, since I haven't read Harbinger Wars, ( but will start soon since HW tpb comes out this week, followed by Harbinger vol 3 next). Not really jacked about Unity or EW but we'll see once the TPB's come out. Kinda disappointed that the Gold Key characters are unavailable at this time ( Turok was a fave as well as Magnus robot fighter). Would love to see a rebooted spin with these characters in the hands of the current incarnation of Valiant, cause their reimagining of XO has been phenomenal. As has their rake on Harbinger. Well, maybe the Gold Key rights holders will bring their licensing demands down into a reasonable figure time will tell. Looking forward to a possible relaunch of RAI??!! ( fingers crossed) As well as the new direction of Shadowman startling soon ( I admit I picked up a few issues of SM after reading the first TPB, but was unimpressed). Still, other than the Rocketeer/Spirit, Valiant is my only read. And I look forward to the future. A rediscovered comics fan.
