I buy all Valiant's, all covers from one shop. They stock Valiant pretty damn well.

I buy all Valiant's at cover price at another shop (and they occasionally throw in a variant at cover price). They stock significantly less.

I make a point to discuss the quality of the books every time I'm in there.

They seem to be reading at least some of the books.

Q&W has been a surprise hit in my neck of the woods.

grendeljd wrote:My shop has been a big supporter of the line, but I've noticed lately that if I don't order a 1:20 variant specifically, they don't get them for their 'Variant wall' anymore, where they did before. Which means they are reducing their orders. I haven't had a chat with the owner/manager to see how far they are tailing off yet.
It'd be interesting to hear what the staff have to say about the number of people picking up Valiant in your shop if you get a chance to ask them.

Is that what you've been told by shop staff, or your impression? What about the rest of the Valiant lines, how are they doing?

Was in saint Albans - spoke to the owner their aswell.
Said valiant was strong - but only with the older crowd - those interested in a good story.
Praise indeed.
Interesting point, that the younger readers are not trying it. could be just that store.
It did have presence in the store, every title on the shelf - with it's own shelf space.
Variants on the wall. Shame forbidden planet doesn't do the same - but their shelves ARE PACKED.

Spoke to the manager about more shelving for comics - no can do, head office will not allow it ( came across as that, cannot remember exact words) - the are king of the traffic novel in forbidden planet - but no love for valiant.
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Shadowman99 wrote:What's the sitch like in everybody else's LCS's, as far as you know? Is Valiant selling poorly, well, or substantially where you live?
Well, I just recently found that there WAS a LCS in the town I work in. It's a small place that's only been open for a year or so I guess. I started up a pull list there a month ago and just picked up my first Valiant stuff through him yesterday. When I signed up for my pull box, he told me I was the only person he was ordering Valiant stuff for. I made it my mission to change my title from being the only Valiant subscriber, to being the FIRST Valiant fan (of many to come, I hope)! I've been spreading my books around at work and letting others read them between calls (we work in a call center). Out of the 3 people that I've let read my books, one that I know of has now gone to the same LCS and started a pull list for at least some of the Valiant titles. I heard about this from the LCS when I was in there yesterday. He also said he's had a few other people asking about Valiant comics in the last couple weeks, so he's decided to start buying some to have on the shelves too since there seems to be some interest building!

So, my LCS has gone from zero Valiant subscribers to two in the last month. :high-five: And with him getting questions about it and stocking it now, I hope that there will be further growth soon. Not that I can expect much in this small of a town, but I'm happy to have spread the word this much and will continue to do so where I can!

Phoenix that's brilliant  .

Two weeks ago ( have not said this before) spoke to xxxx manager at forbidden planet, about a comic book club I want to start at the local secondary school.

I will admitt here, he was SUPER keen, more so than when I try and push valiant. said forbidden planet will provide heaps of posters and freebees.

Organising stuff now (in school this afternoon) and got a room :thumb: . Spoke to fellow teachers who share the room, and they where happy that I decorate as I wish. Looks like 'that's the room', which is great - because it has a separate locked room inside - plus lots of computers.

Hoping to promote valiant, push valiant, but has quite high rating. I have seen bad practice in the past with age restrictions, a line I DO NOT cross no matter what. Was thinking - a why arround this is children can read whatever comics they bring in/ share from my collection ( age appropriate).

Parents can also sign a consent form for their children with examples sent home. Still in my head, may do PowerPoint to go to year group assemblies (year goup leaders love when someone presents a year group meeting rather than them ( from experience).

Why write this today? First day back teaching, and students are mega keen. plus after all the data entry, it's the only thing I have been thinking about - still haven't picked up latest bloodshot and q&w.

That sounds like a great idea, but it also seems as though it could be a serious pain in the arse with all the red tape that you have to get through first?

The only thing that occurred to me was that some of the stuff in Valiant comics might be a little heavy for secondary school kids? Don't want to put a dampener on things, but I can imagine some parents flicking through the books, taking one look at a Harada 'Head Doof' and phoning the school to complain about what you're doing giving 'books like this' to kids :|

Despite Amazon consistently listing Valiant under "Children's Books" , they are adult comics really.

The only positive thing I can think of, is that students should be able to read what they bring in.
Concent form.
Or
Just ignore everything, hey they are only comics! Plead ignorance.

The web filter in my work, a college, stops me from getting into half of the threads on this board BUT a page with the words midget porn on multiple times... that's fine apparently!

Just Midget Porn!
