Scalped - Vertigo

Post by The Dirt Gang »

I picked up the first 3 trades of Scalped from my library. I think this is one of the best comics I've ever read. I just got the next 3 today. I a bit bummed b/c it looks like Vol. 7 is missing and they have Vol. 8 but not yet 9-10. I'll have to look for some cheap trades out there. It's really a fantastic series and would make a great show. The artwork is spot on and Aaron clearly has done a lot of research.

I missed this when it was coming out, but after listening to Jason Aaron and Jason Latour at the crime comics panel at Heroescon I think it'll be on my list to pick up going forward. Sounds excellent!

I've read up to late 40s. It's magnetic and highly disturbing.

What's the concept, in brief?

It's a crime/drama set in a fictional modern day Native reserve. it deals with organized crime, politics, poverty and the preservation of Native American culture. I've read the whole thing and loved it.

Don't know how to describe it much more without being spoilery. I've heard folks say it's like the Sopranos on a Native reserve.

This would make a great HBO show. Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever happen. I hate to say it but I doubt they'd take a chance on basically an all Native American cast.

I've had Jason up to the store three times to do signings since he started doing comics, the first time was when Scalped Vol 1 came out. Great guy, great writer. I would put Scalped in my Top Five all time favorites any day of the week.

Just finished Vol. 9 and waiting for the library to get Vol. 10. I can't wait! Such a great read. Not to sound cynical but I'm convinced this would have been a cable TV show if the cast wasn't mainly Native American.

I do the same thing, getting trades from the library. In LA, where I live, you can also go online to the library website, and if there are other branches in the county, they might have the issue you are looking for, and you can put it on hold. They will deliver it to your branch, and alert you when it's available. Try that! Actually read the entire Y The Last Man that way. Was awesome!

Cool! I'll look into it. I always feel a little bad that I'm not spending money to support these titles but it gets to be an expensive habit (or should I say addiction).

I met a guy that works for a TV network this weekend and he told me that his network heard a pitch about a Scalped TV show. Not sure if he was legit..... but he told me.
