Favorite books, new and old?
I am curious, how do your "new" favorites from Valiant match up with your "old" favorites from Valiant. That is, are the books that you enjoyed the most in the 90's the same titles you enjoy the most now?
I will post my two lists in a bit, but I have to put my daughter to sleep now.

Re: Favorite books, new and old?
All are better except Shadowman. Too early to tell on Q&W.
Whoops. I didn't read the initial post correctly. Harbinger and a and a were my favorites. Xo and Harry are favorites from vei. Both being better than the original versions. For that matter, the vei a and a is better than the orig as well.

Re: Favorite books, new and old?
I would say the BWS A&A, Bob Hall Shadowman, 2nd Life, and Eternal Warrior were probably my favorites. I liked Bloodshot and XO, but they weren't top on my list. Harby was good until it focused on Faith back at Harbinger Corp. Magnus and Rai never did much for me. Oh, Solar was a good one as well. I enjoyed HARDCorp at first, and Timewalker for the short time it was out. Geomancer - no. PSILords - good idea but it fell flat.
In the new releases, XO and A&A are probably my top two. Of course, there are only five titles (six if you count the new Q&W).

Re: Favorite books, new and old?
Well, my lists are almost mutually exclusive, as Solar was my number one VH1 book, Harby second, with Rai and Magnus tied for third. VEI has blown VH1 away while still being true to its roots. Favorite VEI is Harby. Bloodshot is second (which almost didn't register on my VH1 list). X-O is this biggest drop from VH1 to VEI in my opinion.

Re: Favorite books, new and old?
Solar, Rai and Harbinger were my top 3 old titles.
I think the biggest jump in quality has to be Bloodshot for me, but X-O and Archer are my favorites.
I'm still waiting on the new Harbinger to spark the same magic and the new Shadowman is nowhere near Bob Hall's.

VH1 - BWS A&A, Rai #0 (even though it's technically not Shooter's), Solar and Bob Hall's Shadowman.
VEI - Dysart's Harbinger way over VH1 Harby and Bloodshot.

Re: Favorite books, new and old?
Harbinger and A&A are my favorites of the current books.
It's been so long, but Magnus and XO were my favorites from VH1 at the time.
Having re-read much of VH1 later, I would say Harbinger (through 25) and Rai now.

Re: Favorite books, new and old?
I think Dysart has taken a solid foundation with Harbinger and has turned it into a skyscraper of awesomeness - with nuanced characters, compelling drama with interesting philosophical and societal underpinnings.
I also think FVL has been brilliant in his re-imagining of the A&A title.
But have some of the other current writers been as creative with the origin, storylines, main character, side characters as the original teams that came up with the original character and concept? It's very murky territory for me ...and difficult to answer cause there are a lot of things to consider.
But since i got that out of the way .. i'll make my picks
Harbinger - VEI
A&A - VEI (tough one ... but FVL has gotten this title to get better with every issue unlike the original)
Bloodshot - VEI (despite the drop off in quality the last few issues - i find this BS much more interesting)
XO - VH1 - Vditti is solid ... but got to give props to the original creators. And Aric and the supporting characters were much more interesting in VH1.
Shadowman - VH1 - Jordan is great at creating this dark, black magic world within the Valiant universe .. but genuine character building has been underwhelming
