Re: Unity
Something about Valiant and the Justice League?
Edit:
Alright I think I've figure it out. It's not an event comic. Unity is going to be Valiant's big superhero team title. Like Justice League for DC and Avengers for Marvel. Unity will be where all of Valiant's heroes "unite" against common enemies. Doesn't seem like Valiant's thing but who knows. Tell me I'm wrong Valiant!

Re: Unity
Maybe Gold Key characters coming into the fray? What better timing to make the universe grow with new ongoing series with Turok and Solar (a la Eternal Warrior & A&A in the original) going against X-O and Bloodshot - or better yet all against Master Darque's sister. That Shadowman #13X (advanced numbering for October) gets us a peek into Master Darque's sister? Just speculating.

Re: Unity
Good theory. I agree it doesn't sound like Valiant, however, they did say it would be something different than what people are expecting.

Re: Unity
If its a random team-up book (not a consistent team roster), except for a few core characters like Neville Alcott, etc. then I would be cool with it.
The book would sell because it would draw in fans of the individual characters, plus it would allow for new/existing characters to gain exposure and maybe end up with their own series down the line.
This is similar to an idea myself and others threw out there at various points when discussing future books and characters like Ninjak, Timewalker, Doctor Mirage, etc. who may not be able to carry their own title. At the time I said call it Secret Weapons.
The title Unity has such a grandiose weight to it, because of its history, that I'm not sure it fits for that type of book. In the end, I trust VEI on whatever Unity will be because they have not given me any reason not to thus far.

Re: Unity
I'll include here what I said in the spoiler thread about Unity:
I think it could be a smart move by them to make Unity into a series. Besides Rai, Unity is probably one of their more marketable titles they have yet to release. Making it into a monthly series seems like a shrewd business move ... and i'm sure its going to be an awesome concept as well.
I'm hoping its NOT a JLA or Avengers type title - Valiant heroes are NOT the typical heroes so I don't like the idea of turning them into heroic caricatures on some team title. I still like the idea of a team book focusing on characters that don't have their own title (Secret Weapons) ... but I don't want to see Peter Stanchek, Eternal Warrior and Shadowman teaming up as super friends.
My guess on Unity is that it will have lots of crossover with major characters getting together to fight a common foe in the Faraway but will also have a long game concept/Major arc to it that will develop slowly over time. I'm hoping that the Faraway along with 1 "good" character(geomancer?) and one "bad" character(mothergod?) will be its major focus with other titles crossing over with Unity from time to time eventually culminating into major crossover(s) every couple of years or so.
If we were to assume that the Faraway has portals to different times and planets ... Unity has many possibilities and storylines to explore.

I'm hoping that the main focus of the title is on the Faraway and on a major Mothergod like villain (perhaps similar to the original in which a god like villain is trying to create a "better world" in the faraway) and the people trying to stop him/her. The title can crossover to other titles and also work as an anthology introducing new characters with one shot issues or focus on lesser known characters.
The first arc can be a major crossover type arc featuring the introduction of the major bad guy of the series and all the major heroes fighting against him/her. The 2nd arc can perhaps focus on the 4001 timeline/Rai. The 3rd arc can be a focus on giving lesser known characters one shot stories. I'm getting ahead of myself right now ... but this could be pretty exciting

Turok is owned by DreamWorks now following their acquisition of Classic Media. Solar and Magnus are owned by Random House, but their media license was owned by Classic at the time they were purchased, so those likely remain with DreamWorks. It's also entirely possible Dark Horse still holds the publishing rights even though they haven't done anything with them in well over a year. Of course Dino said recently that someone is bringing them back but not VEI.
So...

Unity as a superhero team......well, I can't see the Valiant characters working together so harmoniously as they do in Justice League. Since there would probably be some bickering, maybe even arguing, they'd be closer to an Avengers-type team.
