I'll go first:

I'd have to say an instant classic would be Harbinger #5. It had a lot going for it: big changes to the status quo (not only for the story, but traumatic for Peter in particular), lots of emotional impact and tons of psionic action.

Seing the thread title I immediately thought about the "middle" Harbinger issues. 5 is a great choice, but maybe I would pick 8.

Harbinger #5 was a great issue because its when Dysart really broke away from the Harbinger origin template and started really doing his own thing especially when it comes to developing the renegades. The whole Renegades arc is pretty special, IMO.

But .... if i had to pick a single issue. Its probably Shadowman #0.

other stand outs that come to mind..
Harbinger #0
A&A #0
Harbinger #12
Harbinger #5-#9 (renegades arc - all of them are great)
Harbinger Wars #1
A&A #9 (final issue of the EW arc)
Shadowman #1
Shadowman #5 (intro to dr. mirage, baron semedi)
Bloodshot #1
X-O #1
X-O #14
Quantum and Woody #1

I am reading the trades . . . but the issue that focused on Faith in Harbinger has been my favorite so far . . .

I would say X-0 Manowar #1 because it's the return of VEI serving notice to the entire comic industry. We're back and we're going to Rock!!!! Not to mention bringing back memories of when I bought X-O Manowar 1 the first time in the 90's.

Shadowman #0 is probably my favorite all the way around -- art and story.

Harbinger 5 and 0 are both great choices as well.

I love XO but think it reads better as a trade and would have a hard time picking a single issue. XO#1 is definitely key as it brought the universe back.

Harbinger 6 has been my favorite. Harbinger 0, Shadowman 0 and Bloodshot 1 were also issues that stand out for me.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

I've read Bloodshot #1 probably 4 times. Love that issue. Just a great introduction to the effed up world in which Bloodshot resides.

I remember thinking that A&A 4 was the best issue of 2012, but this year, has brought LOTS of awesome issues!
So, here we go:
A&A #0
Harbinger #9 (Hope's issue)
Harbinger Wars #3 (First HARD Core)
X-O #5 (First Ninjak)
X-O #15 (Gilad/ X-O encounter)
Bloodshot #7 (Kinda brought all the first 6 issues together, and set up whole Harbinger Wars)
Shadowman #0

And that's a bare bones list. So many other awesome issues from Valiant!

I totally meant Harby 9, not 6. Faith's issue.

A&A #4 mainly because it kept me from dropping a great series.

I also liked this issue. At the time, many people did not enjoy it.

The Harbinger Renegades arc is all excellent, as is the Shadowman zero book.

Easily my top in VEI so far.

After that:

Harbinger #5
Any Harbinger issue from the Renegades arc
Archer & Armstrong #10
Archer & Armstrong #0
Bloodshot #1 & #2
XO #5
XO #9
XO #15
Shadowman #5
Quantum & Woody #1

Just re-read Harbinger #1-#10 last night, and 5-10 were just excellent all the way around. It's hard to choose, but in the end my favorite was Harbinger #9.

Man, that's a tough question. I find that it changes often. Off the top of my head, it is currently a tie between X-O Manowar #5 and Shadowman #0.

Jeez how fast do you read comics? That'd take me at least a couple hours.

Actually, bigger question, how long does it take for you all to finish an ish? I average about 15 minutes a comic, depending.

Well, it helps to have read them before....so I'm not poring over last panel making sure I catch everything. In addition, I buy digital, so there's no bagging and unbagging, etc...over 10 books that saves some time. I spent about 2/1/2-3 hours reading through them last night, so your 15 minute estimate is about right.
Spooooon!!!!
