Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
Looks like a tough sell for $60, a 9 card set + an original sketch card. They will probably only get orders in the hundreds. Should be a very limited item.

The price is kinda high but it's cool a sketch card is included.

Limited to 500
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

I think it sucks. It will be nearly impossible to find and afford to collect all 6 sketch cards.

If I understand correctly, the sketch cards are original art and one will be included with each set.Aram wrote:I think it sucks. It will be nearly impossible to find and afford to collect all 6 sketch cards.
Ya don't have to worry about collecting them all. The six shown are examples.

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
I think it's a neat idea. Each set will be unique as every sketch will be different. It's a pricy set, but I will be in line for one or two.
Awesome!

It will be a good sign if those sell out at $60. My guess is not.Phantom wrote:Limited to 500
At that price/quantity VEI is pretty much doing it for free. The are probably getting, at most, $25/set from Diamond. $12,500 total. Paying 6 artists to do ~90 sketches each will eat up alot of that. Printing the cards isn't free.

Thanks for stating that, made me re-read it, at first reading I thought the same thing Aram did.

So, there will be 500 unique sketch cards, and each of the 9 character cards will be limited to 500 copies.

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
This does not sound right.. Drawing and inking 500 original art pieces by hand... Isnt that like making about a 50 page comic book just to sell 500 copies?
I could see it making financial sense if they scanned every sketch and brought out a trading card set later of them.. But dang thats alot of work otherwise! Not to mention the cost!

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
I'm not really familiar with the artists doing these sketches, they might be popular artist but I have no clue.
It would be cool within the 500 unique sketches there was an original Zircher, Hairsine and/or Mico Suayan Sketch - Just a couple of Artists that Valiant fans are familiar with ... And obviously those would be the most sought after and popular and would end up being a great surprise if we got that card.
I would buy a set or two and not think twice about it if that was the case - as of right now, I'll wait and see ... I want more info (the complete list of sketch artists) before I pluck down 60 bucks for 10 cards.

Same for me, and imho the EW and Ninjak "sketch cards" look pretty lame. I have seen plenty of fan art that looks better...bygranddesign wrote:I'm not really familiar with the artists doing these sketches, they might be popular artist but I have no clue.

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
I think most of the artist mentioned specialize in sketch cards and already work with Rittenhouse.
500 individual sketch cards may seem like a lot but they are several artists involved, they measure only 2.5" x 3.5" and probably don't take that long to make.
The Bloodshot and Shadowman are "after" Aja and Zircher so they already have source material.
I would love it if some of Valiant's established artists did some of these but so far no mention.

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
Im confused by this. It looks to me like these were done drawn by zircher and aja and after possibly doing the colors? Or are you saying you think it was just after copying their style?sonicdan wrote:I think most of the artist mentioned specialize in sketch cards and already work with Rittenhouse.

On the side of the card you will see the artist names... then / after Aja/Zircher.

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
Tough sell is right. I can go down to Dollar Tree and get twenty old baseball cards for a buck. Sixty dollars would get me 1,200 cards.ckb wrote:Looks like a tough sell for $60, a 9 card set + an original sketch card. They will probably only get orders in the hundreds. Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
I don't know. I'm trying to justify it to myself, because I love Valiant, and I love trading cards, and I really, genuinely want to give them as much of my money as possible, but I also want it to be justified. If I could know for sure that I was going to care about the sketch card, then, like a lot of people have said, that would make it a lot easier. But if it's just a quickie scrubbed out by some guy who does professional quickies for Rittenhouse, then I don't know if my sixty bucks isn't better spent once the full set comes out.
(This is nothing against the guys who do professional quickies - some of those on Rittenhouses site look pretty cool. Just not necessarily sixty bucks cool)

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
Not for me, I'm afraid. I'm getting some heavy deja-vu here. Anyone recall the old days when Valiant, Defiant, and others hit us with something similar again and again? As much as I love Valiant, as much as I try to be something of a Valiant completist (excluding variant covers), I'll be giving this set a big fat miss, and pretty much any other card sets Valiant brings out. Collecting comics is an expensive exercise these days, and I can't afford a detour into cards. Sorry, guys.

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
If anybody ends up buying multiple sets, I'd be happy to try and work something out to take the duplicate preview cards off your hands, but I just don't think I'm gonna be able to go for the full enchilada when I'm not all that worried about the sketch cards.

Re: 2013 VALIANT PREVIEW TRADING CARD SET
The artists these sketch card companies are amateurs. I've seen these in the past for a lot cheaper from books I loved like dynamo 5 and passed because the quality of the sketch art was all over the place (mostly not good to terrible). Rest assured that those six are probably the best of what they have ready to go. No way I'm paying sixty bucks with the possibility of getting a crappy baseball card sized sketch.bygranddesign wrote:I'm not really familiar with the artists doing these sketches, they might be popular artist but I have no clue.
