I think this book was just a matter of time, I also think many of these books may be in multiples in collections as those of us who have been collecting the Pre unity and special books know how hard these were to get originally, and have been picking them up for years. I personally remember buying 4 at a dutch ebay auction for $14 each, although the seller did a really lousy job of packing and I got spine creases above the bottom staple, just slight, but probably made the books a 9.2 instead of a 9.6/9.8. I think the original seller had 40 or so, probably someone from valiant or acclaim.
I've noticed the new bidders as well. The winner of my X-O Gold CGC 9.8 had a 0 feedback rating, & I never heard of him before. I e-mailed him to make sure he was legit. Not only was he legit, but he paid for it right there on the spot. I was curious about him so I checked the rest of his bids, & he had over a $100.00 bid on two other Valiant CGC 9.8's.dino wrote:Finally some real respect for this book.
Interesting to see a couple of new names bidding, both seem to be comic book experts/speculators/investors (take your pick)
Aug002 in disguise maybe?

I personally have always thought the book to be somewhat undervalued, but a NM- means it is a 9.0 or maybe even an 8.5 if the seller is overgrading his book which is common on ebay, so you are probably correct in your assessment Greg. I find it to be kind of funny where this is a classic collectors book though, and went straight into bags and boards by most of the people who originally got them, so the average grades on this book should be 9.4/9.6 at least which shows up on the CGC chart. Also, as Greg mentioned in another post, this book was commonly creased above the staples upon arrrival from Valiant so these are really great buys in 9.8.
This is true, but I've had 3 CGC 9.6's of this book and all have had the line you describe. I'm not even sure that is what kept them from 9.8's either. I cant say for sure wether you can get a 9.8 with this line, but it wouldnt surprise me as it is a very common printing defect.ckb wrote:Nearly every copy of this book has a faint tranverse line near the top of the spine - something in the printing process I imagine. I doubt it would affect the grade until the 9.6-9.8 level though.
