I'm not all giddy as a school girl that Valiant is back. In my opinion, the art is substandard and if Valiant is constantly being told "this is great stuff", they will think they are doing a good job. In my opinion, the art in X-O Manowar #13 is terrible and part of the reason is letting Nord ink his own stuff. For me, issue #1 was stellar and I thought an apparent standard had been set and again, I think that X-O Manowar #13 is substandard.

I gave the Shadowman #0 issue my best ever possible review, so it's not like I am a Valiant hater and I have not been on the message board for over (or damn near) 10 years now chatting about Valiant and now great I thought it was (and sometimes/mostly is).

People don't like my harsh review of the art in X-O Manowar #13... maybe people should think, "wow, Knightt really doesn't like the art in X-O Manowar #13" and maybe Valiant will read this and tell Nord to step it up a notch and earn all of his paycheck. I mean, the covers to Valiant comics are fantastic... for the amount of money I pay each month for every title and pullbox variant, in my opinion it is not much to ask for art that is consistent from an experienced artist.

:thumb:
My reaction is because calling art as dogsh*t is not exactly inviting intelligent discussion. Caling anythying dogsh*t is not a review.

A lot of people like me actually see the artistry in the current Nord style. It's not substandard because I can see a purpose for the rough inks. Cary Nord appears to be shifting his art style to the darker end of the spectrum. I appreciate the different perspectives and the storytelling techniques used by Nord in this issue.

I am exceptionally glad you are enjoying the current Valiant books, especially X-O Manowar #13. Your loyal support will most definitively ensure that Valiant will be around for years to come.

Okay, do you guys prefer settling this by knocking one another off pedestals with pugil sticks, or racing up a rock wall while Ice or Thunder chase you, trying to pull you off the wall?

Hell no, that sounds gay as two fat Chinese boys kissing in church.

How about THIS... I pull my firearm, start shootin' and the guy left standing WINS !!

Now THATS some competition. Next thing is, you'll be talking about wearing red, white, and blue tights or something and the only thing I want to see wearing some read, white, and blue tights is a 34 year old blond gal with all natural boobs and a bottle of Jim Beam in her hand.

Pugil sticks... BAH !!!

err, this does not have anything to do with loyalty. I am actually not picking up Quantum and Woody because James Asmus is meh.

Takeshi's Castle is delightfully strange. Like most of Japanese pop culture.

Is that anything line MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) ? Loved that show. "Right you are, Ken!"

MXC is an American re-dub of Takeshi's Castle. They write a humorous script to dub over the already strange action of the show. MXC is hilarious. However, the re-dub is almost not needed. The original material is funny enough.

I gotta agree with Knightt all around. The art was bad, and if Valiant is consistently told they are doing a great job with everything they will continue to produce substandard books. The worst thing you can do is believe your own hype.

I guess I'm not as discerning; nothing about the art struck me as bad. I'll have to go back and look again.

my point is that some of us actually see the art is good and that the roughness of the art has storytelling purpose to it but unfortunately our opinions are being lumped with being mindlessly loyal to Valiant.

Yeah thought so, that's why you appear to be having a difficult time catching subtle contextual inflections, taking everything at face value (i.e. literal)

Wow, how condescending and racist is the underlying tone of that comment. Sorry I can not understand the context of English despite having earned two MA degrees and presented academic papers in science conferences. You know what, I'd better leave the board.

So true. And I wish I felt that the art contributed to the story but I don't feel that the story is very good at all. I mean I can excuse the art if the story is good.

No kidding, it isn't the first time I spoke out my puwit (@$$) and it won't be the last. Christ, I didn't know a bunch of teenage girls joined the board. Despite your academic prowess, you still failed to understand my disengaging comment and you chose to drive on.

So, I notice where you are from, thinking English is not your primary language and thus the reason for your "err, this doe not have anything to do with loyalty" comment. Yet, you can call me a racist... nice. I've got plenty of buddies here local with Filipino wives and let me tell you, brother... I AM A FAN !!

Hell, I've even spent some time in yer homeland, ma'am... a place called Dumangas (?) if I remember correctly. Spent time there with a friend and his wife's family, her name was Mirna and let me tell you she was a helluva cook, made this stuff called Inihaw na Liempo (?), it was some pork dish but MOST of all, she was a looker (that means a good looking woman) and I mean "all the way up and down" but... NOT as good as her older sister. Sweet Jesus, I'm telling you I just about came down with some island fever, if you know what I mean.

But the BEST time was when I was in German and I used to uh 'frequent' these bars where all these Filipino girls would come over for 90 days on 'some kind of VISA' and man, they were LOOKING for a man. Well, they found one but I was dating this Scottish chick who got pretty angry about my popularity, so I had to call it quites.

So, to call me a 'racist' because I question your English ? Hell no, brother I am a big fan of your women and a lot of your food but I have to admit, I am not a fan of your frail sensibilities.

Now if you want to get your panties out of a wad and play with the big boys... come on out of the powder room.

That's exactly what I'm doing... "excusing the art" and it's a shame I have to do that but ya know, I'm loyal.

Some issues have looked incredible and IMO Archer & Armstrong is leading the pack in regards to story AND art. I wish X-O and Bloodshot would follow suit.

I'm not a "teen-aged girl" but the "anything negative is related to a woman" stuff gets old. The menfolk on this board have been far beyotchier than I ever knew possible. I believe one of our members has a daughter who would like to participate in the board discussions because she loves the books so much. I don't think that's going to be a good idea since many of the threads take on a derogatory tone about women.

Racists? No. Possibly pigs? In some cases, yes.

Don't get all butt-hurt about my opinion. (oh - and in reference to another thread that says something about women not liking that term, etc - wrong. I use it when it fits the situation.)

About the art: I like Cary Nord's drawing style, but he's still getting up to speed on inking. It's a bit heavy at times and looks better without the coloring, judging by his instagram shots of the process. I still think the art is better than a lot of what is on the market.

:funnypost: well said Pixierosa!

Erwinrafael - there's no need to leave the board mate, Knightt is just being 'controversial', I'm sure he means for people to take him with a pinch of salt. Let's not go dropping the 'R' bomb on him though, seems uncalled for, surely we can poke fun at each others nationalities without getting too offended? I mean, looking at Knightt's written English I'm not sure English is his first language (just joking Knightt, leave the guns in the holster)! :P

Anyhow, let's play nice, its only comics after all!
