Re: Hi, I'm Joshua Dysart...
You know what gets me really PO'ed is that if this is really the reason why i didn't win then why not tell me the second you figured it out. It took a month and a half to inform me of this and i had sent 3 email before that asking about the book i had thought i won. So why not that day be like "oh sh$t i made a mistake and I am so sorry" but NOOOO! So what am i to do. I was going to buy a Harbinger gold #1 today but then Valiant opened the online Merchandiser store and i blew my money there. So i got to save up again and hope to get it before NYComic-Con so i can get it signed myself. I just hope Joshua Dysart will be there.hawkeyeps wrote:That sucks, your word is your bond. If you were notified you won, you should get the prize regardless of the his error. If someone screws up they make it right, end of story. It's a matter of honour.ValiantReader wrote:I got a reply from Simon Daoudi, after i posted something to the Comic Impact Facebook page(which was promptly deleted by comic impact). So thank you pixierosa for the advice. Unfortunately for me i didn't like the email he sent. Im just going to post the email and you tell me if this sounds like a BS excuse to me.ValiantReader wrote:Yea thx man ill give it a try. Its been a little over a month since he emailed me saying i had won the book and to be expecting it in the mail soon. Well at-least i have some hope now knowing that you got your prize. Look for my post on FB and comment and share it if you like lol.pixierosa wrote:ValiantReader wrote:Hey Joshua Dysart, I have a question you may be able to help me with. Do u remember doing a interview you did with Simon Daoudi from ComicImpact.com at the WonderCon2013. They had a contest at he end of the interview where you signed a gold harbinger #1 and asked a question about the two harbingers that were raised under Harada. I answered the question and got a email back withing the hour from Simon Daoudi saying i won and would be receiving it in the mail shortly. Its been a little more then a month since then and i have emailed him 2 times since then with no reply. If you happen to see him again can you ask him to reply to my email and just tell me if its coming or not. It may seem silly to some but i felt like i won the lotto that day. I was screaming and so happy about the book. I been going back and forth about spending the money on the gold #1 variant for months before i saw that interview. Winning it... well free is better then 150$ for a comic. Which is way worth it but im not that rich. I been loving harbinger since #1 and Harbinger Wars has been freaking amazing! I want to collect every book and variant now while they are cheap cause i know the value of your books are only going to go up. Well thx for your help and if you cant its cool. Just keep the good comics coming cause your work is amazing. You the man Dysart!
I'm sorry to hear this. I had a similar experience with Simon. It took 2 months for him to get me the Archer & Armstrong Gold that I won from one of their contests. Lots of emails, and we even called them out on Facebook -- that did the trick. He had excuses, of course, and some were valid, but hearing this story from you makes me think that he's just not very responsible about the contest prizes.
You may need to send a public tweet or a similar action. I hated doing that, but like you said -- it feels great to win something that you really want.
"Hey Jason I don't know if you got my previous message someone won the contest a few minutes before you did I'm really sorry about that.
I'm in a try to get you something signed by Joshua I know he lives here in LA. I am so sorry about the misunderstanding occultist usually run first-come first-served misprision beat you to two minutes before I know I send you an email saying that you had won. The person's email ended up in my spam folder I don't know why."
So who thinks he is going to sends me something that is equal to a signed harbinger #1 gold variant by Joshua Dysart? Even better who thinks his excuse is real or that the book is sitting in his collection. If by some chance he telling the truth it is still the most F$%&ed up think i have ever experienced from a company. Well ill just wait again for Simon to make it up to me. Ill keep waiting and waiting and waiting...

I doubt we've run him off. He's probably busy writing multiple books for VEI. I prefer he do that, than waste time with us.
Also, judging by the interviews that OTV has done with him, he's pretty good at derailing discussions into interesting/weird directions, so he fits right in here.
Finally, what do we have in life, if we can't derail discussions on the internet?

Re: Hi, I'm Joshua Dysart...
I’m posting the below quote from a post I wrote in another thread. I was wondering what Josh thought about Harbinger translating to the big screen. I personally feel like movies are limiting and I fear that there would be too much compromising of the material in an attempt to appeal to the masses. A dream come true would be to see Harbinger on a premium channel like HBO or Showtime. There would be much less of a compromise of the source material and Dysart’s themes and characters can be fully explored in depth on television. I think it’s the best way to show that Harbinger is truly different from other mutant themed comics.
I find movies to be pretty limiting especially if you're hoping for insightful, character driven storytelling especially in the fantasy/action genre. Studios need to make their money back and you do that by appealing to as wide a range an audience as possible - character building takes a back seat to over the top action that will appeal to the masses. Plus telling a story in 2 hours in which we are supposed to care about a character is tough to do - so make the characters as cookie cutter and obvious as possible and move along the plot to the action scenes. This is why I prefer comics, books and television - that's where my favorite storytellers can flesh out a story and characters without compromise... (There are plenty of movies I love and think are brilliant .. Just generally speaking .. IMO it's tough to make a movie from heavily layered source material)
If I was Valiant I would be going to a premium channel like HBO or Showtime and pushing an adult themed Harbinger that will play off the popular Mutant Mythos but with a more grounded, realistic and deeply character driven theme. 12 episode seasons of Harbinger where nothing needs to be compromised for the sake of over the top action - where Dysart exploration of complex flawed heroes, war and power can be fully realized would be a dream come true.

Re: Hi, I'm Joshua Dysart...
A brief testimonial -
I grew up with comics. In fact, I grew up in a comic shop, which, despite it's ups and downs, is overall a pretty amazing thing. Because of this, I've been steeped in comic lore and history since I was old enough to stop staring at the pictures and want to know what Batman was saying. As I've grown older, I've only grown more attached to the medium. Some of the more important stepping stones of my maturation as a person were books like Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, Moore's Swamp Thing, Sandman, Gotham Central, and Y the Last Man.
Like a lot of people, I discovered Valiant last year, and, while I've enjoyed digging through the back issue bins to discover the classic runs, I much prefer what's being put out now, and Harbinger is a big part of that - the biggest, in fact. But the most important part about this isn't about me. I have a friend - a very good friend, but one who could never get into comics. He'd tried books occasionally off and on, never sticking with them for more than a couple of issues. The medium just didn't hold his interest, and eventually I just gave up - different strokes and all. But I was so moved by Harbinger towards the beginning of the second arc that I took all my issues to him and said "please take these home and read them. Give this one last shot." Of course, he loved it. What would be the point in telling this if he didn't? But here's what's extraordinary about it - Harbinger didn't just have the power to convert this complete non-believer into a comic fan (he's now branching out into other Valiant titles), he passed it on to others in his social circle, his wife, his parents. And they all fell just as much in love as he did.
Harbinger is a powerful thing. To say that it's the best book on the stands right now is to undersell it's significance a little, I think, because I've been in comics my whole life, and the last time I saw a book have this kind of effect on such a diverse group of people was Sandman. Harbinger is beautiful. It's important. And, underselling or no, it's the best damn book on the stands right now. So thank you.
