Agreed...good story, and Liefeld did a pretty good job.Rai-fan wrote:I'd have to give a shout-out to vol. 2, # 7--What if Wolverine were an agent of SHIELD. One of my first comic books, Liefeld art, cool story.
#6 was good if you'd read all of Inferno, and #8 was also good if you read the first Armor Wars. After #8, I didn't like too many of them.

I just re-read this one the other day. Thought it was a decent issue, although the part where Spiderman busts in and says "Thor you need to come with me RIGHT NOW, millions of lives are at STAKE!!!!" just because he wanted Thor to water some crops was completely ridiculous. The Spider wrote:That Cosmic Spidey vs Venom scene looks like it was based on MIRACLEMAN #7 where Miracleman takes Gargunza to the sky and narrates almost the same dialogue.rhinox01 wrote:Its been a quite a few years, but I remember enjoying the one where Spidey kept his cosmic powers

a couple:
What If Hulk Went Berserk? - Hulk rampages and kills all sorts of superheroes like iron man, mr fantastic, etc until Thor comes in and snaps his neck.
What if Sue Richards Child had lived? - this was a double issue that had two good stories, one where the child is good and one when it is bad. The 'bad' story is very cool and has a good dr. doom last stand, and the 'good story' has a nice capt. america scene
What if Iron Man Lost The Armor Wars? was the first what if i ever owned

other than correcting you on the issue number (it was #32), I have to agree wholeheartedly with your choice of the Korvac What If? issue. It was one of the first VERY cosmic stories I've read and the ending of the book really was chilling. I don't want to spoil the ending, but I will say this, NEVER was a weapon used to more effect than in the end of that book. Here's the front cover:Peter Parker wrote:Best What If?
Easy, #1
what if Spider-Man had joined the Fantastic Four...if for no other reason than nostalgia![]()
Also, #25 I believe?
What if the Avengers had been pawns of Korvac....awesome

But, since your vulgarity starting with a "@" rather than a "$", you can see how one might....mistake....your intent.

(by the by....never been a fan of the avengers, and I think I've maybe read....oh hell, I don't think I've EVER read an issue....wait...maybe I read the Adams issues? I think I may have read #93 like 15 years ago...but I digress....)
Anyways, I finally read my first complete Avengers arc...#500-#503...and other than being abysmally paced (it could EASILY have been a yearlong storyline, EASILY....talk about POTENTIAL...) it was really quite, quite good.
A shame writers feel pressure from 'fans' to smash things into easily digested bites. Lame.

I love alternate universe stories. My favorite is Star Trek's mirror universe. I'd pick up the comics if I had the money/could find them.Daniel Jackson wrote:I always liked the ‘What If’ books from Marvel and the ‘Elseworlds’ books from DC. It gave them an opportunity to do things with a character that they normally would be afraid of doing.
My favorite would be #62 What If...Wolverine Battled Weapon X.
After Weapon X takes out Alpha Flight he and Wolverine go at each other in a brutal and blody battle.
Wolverine standing there saying "Hi there." And he's got about 4 guns, ammo, grenade, knife and a Samurai Sword. They were great seeing and seemed in character.
Hand to hand battle Wolverine's leaning over in what I guess is a standard pose. Arms crossed almost touching the ground. Was standard Wolverine just with a different look.
By the end Wolverine walks away, weapon X headless and he turns in files about the government starting the whole thing. That was good. I like how he's at peace at the end. Makes ya wonder what would happen after.

Wow. Another Lazarus here.
BUT - it is a neat thread that I had not seen and definitely worthy of discussion.
I am a big What If? junkie. I have a batch of What The?! comics too. There was a later issue in the second series, 109 maybe? I think the name of the story was Kingdom of Cane. The basic gist was that Juggnaut was the last person on Earth, and it was his fault. He roamed the earth along killing the last few Sentiels alve, and runs into Magneto, who lets him know how much it really is all his fault. He then ends up finding Magneto's lair and finds a small colony of people there, and Quicksilver lets Juggy know that the radiation (that's what had killed everyone else) was now coming in and killing all of them too. Juggernaut just wanted to talk to someone else. They cast him out, not wanting his company in their last moments and Cain is now forced to roam the earth with a constant companion of his own guilt. Touching and sad, but a good story for me.
An honourable mention definitely to the recent What If? one shot featuring Woverine working for Hydra. That was so awesome. Sue Richards traps his head in an invisible forcefield and he gives himself a tracheotomy. It was also neat to see an assembled team with both Sue Richards and Magneto. And my girl Kitty.
