Batman appreciation thread to discuss new comics, etc.

Everything else comic-related that's not VALIANT-related.

The odds are completely against us.

Dick: When did we ever let something like that get in the way? Robin, the boy wonder, DAMIAN.

Damian: So far, I'd say you're my favorite partner. We were the best, Richard. No matter what anyone thinks.

Dick: Hey, we can't help being great.

Dick as Bats and Damian as Robin was one of the Greatest Things that dc has put out in decades. DECADES.

I know Morrison has said as far as he's concerned it's permanent, but really, how long before a writer down the road decides to resurrect him via a Lazarus pit?

I don't agree with their ranking at all. Do you guys agree or disagree with it? How would you rank them?

Dick *SQUEE* Grayson is no. 1, Jason Todd is 10 and Helena Wayne is 7? That list is wholly wrong.

Jason Todd is the best because he got killed by the best. Starlin.

There's going to be a new Batman per Newsarama:

Earth 2 is continuing the origin of the New 52 Dr. Fate. Robinson praised artist Nicola Scott who will draw the entire arc and said “she raised the bar even further.” Captain Steel is an important piece to a major event in 2014 and issue #13. “The Annual will introduce the new Batman of Earth 2, with art by Cafu.”

I just read it. It was a typical Morrison comic where it didn't tell a great story and didn't use good dialogue. I swear that Morrison's scripts must be the vaguest thing ever because it seems like the artists never know what the hell they are drawing towards.

I'm guessing everyone has seen the preview pics for the new Earth 2 Batman. Anyone want to take a guess on who it is? I don't think DC would make any of the previous Robins Batman simply because it wouldn't jive with the path they're taking with their books. It could be a totally new character, but I don't think they would do that either. I'm going to say it's Bruce's dad, Thomas. Maybe on Earth 2, Bruce and Martha are shot and killed, so Thomas takes up the mantle of the Bat. Your thoughts?

I thought Earth 2 Batman was dead?

That would be REALLY dangerous in regular continuity. I haven't seen the preview (link?) but would be quite surprised if they did go with Thomas Wayne. I know he was incredibly popular in the Flashpoint alternative (and it was well done and works as an origin) BUT DC can't allow Bruce's dad to be running around in regular continuity. Inevitably these two universes are going to meet and more often, then what, Batman father & son special? Father's Day with Batman? It just invalidates Bruce's mission if his dad is running around doing the same thing in the same continuity.

The 10 Greatest BATMAN Villains of ALL TIME! (according to Newsarama):

1. Joker
2. Ra's al Ghul
3. Two-Face
4. Riddler
5. Catwoman
6. Doctor Hurt
7. Bane
8. Penguin
9. Poison Ivy
10. Hush

I wouldn't even have Catwoman on this list as I don't see her as a villain. Doctor Hurt at #6? Kind of high for him. Joker is obvious at #1, and I agree with 3 and 4. Then it gets a little blurry. I would probably have Hush a little higher, as well as Bane and Ivy. And Prometheus would also make my list. What would your list look like?

6. Black Mask
7. Killer Croc

The Gentlemen Ghost deserves an honorable mention just because I always thought he looked cool , even if he is kind of a lame character. Talia al Ghul might actually take Poison Ivy's place now, but her romantic involvement with Bruce sorta takes away from her role as a villain in my book. Catwoman hasn't been a villain in at least 15 years so she is nowhere near this list to me.

Dr. Hurt is a little too new for me to put him on this list. The Court of Owls as well.

Onomatopoeia almost made this list too.

Actually, he was nowhere near it.

I was glancing through Batwoman #19 and Mr. Bones makes a comment about Batman slipping up and getting sloppy (due to the death of his son) and Batwoman stated in #18 that she tells Hawkfire that she never would have accepted Batman's offer to join Batman Inc because of Bruce being such a control freak (even though she admits to being one herself in the same exchange). So I came up with this idea: is it possible later this year or early next could we see a War of the Bats type storyline with Batman and those loyal to him taking on Batwoman and those who are not exactly loyal to Bruce fighting it out for control of Batman Inc. and the future of Gotham City and maybe even the New 52?
Know this: I would rather be hated for being honest for my opinions, than being loved as a liar!

No, I don't ever see that happening. Batman allows her to fight crime because he knows she is capable, and she fights crime within the parameters of his rules.

I also don't think that Bruce is such a control freak that he needs to go fight people who don't do things his way. Otherwise he would have taken on the JLA many times by now.

I think that its either his way or the highway. If you leave you are on your own.

There's been many times were Batman has taken down a crime fighter in Gotham who he believes is a vigilante or breaks his rules. He considers Gotham "his" city or territory, so if you break his rules, you either leave Gotham or go to jail.

One of the hardest things I have had had to do, recently, is to avoid putting that on my pull. I want it so damn bad, but it scares the heck outta me. I am going to Byrne steal the first issue (at least for a page or two) at the LCS before I plunge into the title.

I say this knowing full well that at anytime, at any hour, I can e-mail DCBS and have them add it to my order that just went through. I am trying to resist the urge ... fight it ... trying ... failing ...

That's usually because they are a lunatic, or a murderer. Batwoman sort of operates outside of the "family" but he tolerates her. I also don't think he would ever go after someone in his "family" unless they started killing people like Jason Todd did.

I've already got my DCBS order in for this. Why fight it? It's only one issue!

Of course even if it sucks, I will probably give it like 4 or 5 issues before I pull the plug.
