Who are some creators you'd like VEI to hire?
Pretty self-forward question. Who are some creators you'd like VEI to hire in the future? Also, please keep this discussion realistic. While I'm sure some of you would love for Geoff Johns to drop everything at DC and work at Valiant, we all know that that isn't realistic.
Personally, I'd like to see Joshua Hale Fialkov or Jeff Parker to get some work at Valiant. Both create outstanding books that usually fail to get the big media attention that books of similar or less quality do.

I'd love to see Sean Murphy (punk rock Jesus) take a stab at a Shadowman 4001 comic. Give him a section of the world in 4001 and let him do his thing - insightful political, religious and social commentary with a future backdrop, scifi drama and gritty action.

I dug Russ Braun's work on The Boys. Very cool art. Don't know what he's doing now, but I think he would be a pretty good fit for Valiant.

Re: Who are some creators you'd like VEI to hire?
I'm going to go realistic with my selections. (And also stick with Valiant Veterans I'd like to see back.)
Bob Hall
Mike Leeke
Tom Ryder
Bob Hall
Jim Calafiore
Rags Morales
Don Perlin (enjoyed his new Bloodshot story with Kevin Vanhook)
...and before I forget, did I mention Bob Hall,
and more than I can remember at the moment.
I know many of these creators are doing their own things or working with DC/Marvel, ect. but some of these guys definied what Valiant was to me, I know they made fun of Valiant house style in ads back then, but they made up what I consider Valiant house style.

Re: Who are some creators you'd like VEI to hire?
Paul Cornell (Demon Knights
)
Scott Snyder
Tim Sale
Alex Ross
Neal Adams
Bob Hall
Ivan Reis
Brian Azzarello (what i read of his wonder woman series was top notch)
Matt Wagner
Jeff Lemire
Warren Ellis
Barry Windsor Smith
Some of these are probably unlikely (Snyder/Ross/Reis), but it is just a wishlist

I think Matt Wagner would be just about a perfect fit for Rai.
I would love to see the guys that did Moriarty write the Eternal Warrior.

Great list. Especially Jim Calafiore. I'd add Yvel Guichet and Jorge Gonzalez. Not sure if it will ever happen but I'd love to see some of the original Valiant crew work on the new Vaiant comics.shadow5555 wrote:I'm going to go realistic with my selections. Re: Who are some creators you'd like VEI to hire?
I'd like to see Warren Ellis do Shadowman or a title set in 4001. Druid showed that he's willing to do research into a culture and I'd like to see his take on voodoo. Bygranddesign's idea of 4001 Shadowman would play to what I think are two of Ellis' strengths: magic and technology.
Si Spurrier has been really impressing me with X-Men: Legacy so I'd really like to see what he could do with some valiant characters. I bet he could write a good Midnight Earl.
I know it's not likely but I'm interested in what Garth Ennis would do with Hard Corps.
As for artists I'd like to see Yvel Guichet, Rebekah Issacs and the return of Bob Hall.

Re: Who are some creators you'd like VEI to hire?
I like totally different art for some of my Variant covers.
Like: Rob Guillory from Chew, Chris Giarusso, and Agnes Garbowska.
Also Stan Sakai variant covers would be AMAZING!
A thomas Yates XO cover would be sweet.
Anything by Tony Harris or Mark Buckingham.

Sean Murphy on Rai would be awesome for the same reasons stated above.bygranddesign wrote:I'd love to see Sean Murphy (punk rock Jesus) take a stab at a Shadowman 4001 comic. Paul Cornell on Secret Weapons and/or Ninjak.

If they could get Jonathan Hickman to write something, I'd be all for that too. He could do a lot with a future timeline book like Rai/Psi-Lords or crazy Scifi like Bloodshot/HARD Corps.

Re: Who are some creators you'd like VEI to hire?
I feel bad, because Yvel was fresh in my mind from his Man of God book and Jorge, I thought about after I posted, truly one of the unsung writers for VH1, and I felt bad when he got shoved off of XO for Busiek, considering he had been writing the book for so long and was doing a great job, when Kurt took over it just felt so...jarring and basically threw all continuity Jorge had worked so hard to build right out of the window (that was the biggest problem with Birthquake IMO for the entire line in cases when new creators took over, some were better, some just demolished what came before without any after thought)Burrito Boy wrote:Great list. I'd like to see David Lapham take a turn at writing Bloodshot. After all, that comic is full of stray bullets.

I like this idea.Burrito Boy wrote:I'd like to see David Lapham take a turn at writing Bloodshot. After all, that comic is full of stray bullets.
Also, I'd like to see Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) write Shadowman. I like Brian Hurtt's artwork on the same book but not sure if it fits Valiant. The little I've read of The Sixth Gun they've got a really great grasp on the horror/mystical element and really wonderful dialogue.
As well, I like the little I've seen of Simon Roy's work and think he'd do some great Eternal Warrior stories set in the past. Something about his work reminds me of Dixon's in EW#1. They don't look anything a like but there is something that reminds me of it.
How about Jodorowsky and Juan Gimenez (he draws some great robots) on any future book. I would really like to see them do Magnus.
I think Brian Wood and Carla Speed McNeil are a really solid writers as well.
I love Joe Casey's work but I"m not sure if he is right for Valiant.
I'd like to thank my local library for providing me with many great graphic novel options.

Simon Spurrier on a Dr Mirage series would be killer. Greg Rucka on Ninjak might make my toes curl . . .

Agreed. He was my original suggestion (along with his Mystery Men partner Patrick Zircher) for Shadowman before that was announced. He'd be good on a Ninjak or Dr. Mirage book...Something with some noir intrigue or espionage aspects.Lord Infamous wrote:David Liss, his work on Black Panther/The Spider/Mystery Men are highly underrated and awesome books

Oh Liss and Zircher on Shadowman would have been awesome, he'd just kill it on a Dr. Mirage book
