The bad news both copies have the word 'FREE' blacked out with marker. They're both in fairly good condition otherwise. Not sure if I should try to sell one and see what I end up getting or hang on to them for a while. The book seems rare but I just wish the darn stickers weren't marked up!

I haven't found tons of information about this book, but this link was helpful, in case anyone is curious (or happens to come across one).
Is it just the sticker and the price variant that makes it rare? Seems like that sticker could be counterfeited, no?
Pretty much, yeah - these books have no price and the sticker on the cover. They were giveaways with purchase of All detergent. I believe this was only in select stores in the Northeast, as most of these books seem to come from that area. The guy I got these from used to live in Massachusetts. I'm not expert on counterfeiting but taking a book that was published in 1978 and counterfeiting a sticker that also looks 35 years old doesn't sound like the easiest task. I really had no idea this book existed until I saw his Craigslist posting and started researching the book. Still not sure what to do with them.

I understand what you're saying, but for people to pay that amount for a store sticker sounds ridiculous. I would sell these in a heartbeat, for anywhere close to that amount, even half of that amount, if I were you...

I'm pretty sure they had no idea what it was...it's one of those type of shops.

Unless it was a Marvel or DC variant they are all over those.

You must be obsessed with your mail box right now, the package from Dr.M and a Harby GOLD from Valiant :o ... the goodness keeps comin'.

You deserve it Bro, congrats.

That said, my collection is within a sliv ( :twocents:) of yours and I'm right on your heels Bro but this will give you a nice little margin (for now)

I had to go to a meeting in Red Deer today and raided the LCS afterwards for old Valiant and Acclaim.

Cool story-

I was looking around and there was nothing, the owner asked if he could help and I said I was looking for Valiant, he dragged a box out of the back and said "pardon the dust". I managed to dig out Turok 38,39 (VH1) and Shadowman #10 (Acclaim) which I didn't have. I asked why he had no new Valiant on the shelves, he had gobs of everything else. He said I was the first guy that ever asked for it. That lead me in to my big spiel about Valiant (which I won't bore you with because we all know damn well) he agreed with what I was saying about Marvel and DC and I think I may have sparked an interest. Especially when I mentioned that the new writer of GL was farmed from Valiant etc. etc. I told him he was totally missing out on the best thing in comics and couldn't go wrong with the $10 TPBs and the $1 debuts.

After all that I asked him what he wanted for the 3 books and he said "how about $10", I said " I don't know man, that's way above guide and these aren't mint copies?". He said "tell you what- put whatever you want in the SPCA jar at the till and take them", I said that was a hell of a deal and popped $10 in the SPCA donation thingy.

Just another day in Canada spreading the Valiant love :D
