I could see Rai as a creation by the Bleeding Monk to to bring a nice modern honorable defender hero slant. A modern day samurai, and, hey, the future Rai's all start with the present... no?

Yes. That was said.Dr. Solar wrote:I think the biggest surprise of Wondercon* was hearing someone from VEI actually mention "Rai" and "4001" in the same sentence.
*other than that thing that I am forbidden to mention on threat of excommunication from all things Valiant.

I'm undecided on whether they NEED it, but I'd like to see it happen. I'm not attached to it being as far in the future as 4001, though - that's a number they inherited with Magnus, and isn't an essential detail to me.
It might be the right time to pick a different date (not as far ahead) for setting futuristic stories and establishing future characters in.

Re: Valiant Future Timeline: Is it Necessary?
I don't think it would be necessary but I think it would be fun. With future timelines there is freedom to do epic stories with lasting consequences. With titles based in the present there will always be a need to go back to the status quo in order to preserve realism. For example, I don't think there will be a full-on Vine invasion set in the present because it would change so much.
The discovery of aliens and psiots (still trying to avoid calling them harbingers) by the general population would cause an upheaval in society in my opinion. There would be all sort of ripples to these things that would no longer make it the world outside our windows. Realism would also be lost if there weren't lasting consequences to people finding out about The Vine and psiots so it seems like a lose/lose situation to me.
The nice thing about a setting thousands of years in the future is that you can just say that psiots, aliens, robots and robotic alien psiots are a thing and leave it at that.
You can skip over the messy yet realistic changes the human race would go through when they find out they aren't alone in the universe and just go straight to someone punching a robot in the face.

Magnus, Robot Puncher.
Is there a *SQUEE* spelling correcter on the forum? I typed Magnus to be funny and it comes out Magnus.
It did it again!
