So I started The Maxx. I'm up to issue #4, so far so good.
Not sure if the Maxx is brilliant or nonsense
I'm looking forward to the next book.
Yes..... but there is a spark of brilliance in there..... or at least I think there is. I'm still reading.

One reason I didn't get into The Maxx is that Keith's work is so inconsistent. His Batman and Sandman work is amazing, but what he did on Aliens? ugh.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
The Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #9-11 a 3 part arc called Shadowplay which is equal parts Rashomon, Lethal Weapon, Mission: Impossible, and a dash of X-Men thrown in and is the follow-up/sequel to Chaos Theory by the same team of writer James Roberts and artist Alex Miline. It's OK but is it's hard to keep track of all the characters, concepts, and how and what Cybertronian culture was like before the war between the Autobots and Decepticons started, and who is telling the various flashbacks so it feels a bit uneven, and I didn't find the humor not funny at all. It could have been better and the twist at the end revealing that Shockwave was the senator that saved Optimus Prime and had him rebuilt to carry the Matrix of Leadership (from the brilliant Chaos Theory) just feels cliched and in hindsight not really surprising. The artwork is OK but is no where on the level that Chaos Theory was. I really wanted to love Shadowplay but it's pretentious attempt to be more than what it is just kills it. A 2 out of 5.

The Sixth Gun #27 from Oni.
I love this book.
It's one of my none-Valiant favorites.

Finished the last six issues of Hickman's FF run. Not as good as the overall run, but it tied up some loose ends and had some neat moments. I'd give it a 6/10

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Just read Manhattan Projects #8 last night. Man, I love this book. My wife was reading NBA news next to me, and I kept leaning over and pointing, "Look, it's Feynman and Einstein blowing away robot versions of FDR!", "Look, it's Yuri Gregarin toting a shot gun to go kill the computer FDR!". This is the most awesome book I've ever read!
Also working through Incredilble, Chew, and The Walking Dead. I'm up to #7 on Invincible, 3 or 4 on Chew, and the issue with the Governor's first appearance on TWD. Very much enjoying my comic reading of late. If only we had more Valiant!
As for the Maxx - I'm a fan. I love Sam Kieth - I was just admiring his work on the first Sandman arc when I re-read it about a month ago.

This is a hard series to talk about. Some parts I really liked, and some not at all. I thought some of the stories at the end were (to me) a total waste. But the very end I did enjoy.
Overall I'm glad I read it, but there is no reason to read it again (although I'll totally get more of the story the second time through).

Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland. This GN was excellent. For those that follow the series, it reintroduces some characters from early in the series when Bigby was working for the Allies in WW2. I highly recommend it, as it also ties in a dead character from early in the series as well. The art was excellent in addition to the writing.

Am I the only person who wished that Marvel would just get rid of The Thunderbolts and The Dark Avengers? I mean both series have jumped the shark and really both teams are no longer needed anymore.
Everybody knows that the nWo Wolfpac was a trillion times cooler than the nWo Hollywood ever was.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I have been reading Hellboy, BPRD, and The Goon from Dark Horse.
I am only through the "Plague of Frogs" with BPRD and Hellboy. I gotta say that Hellboy is very strong. Some of Mignola's early stuff was okay, but the last few Hellboy stories that I have read were awesome (Conquer Worm, The Third Wish, Box of Evil). BPRD is just okay. If it wasn't part of the Hellboy universe I don't know if I would keep reading it. I do hear that it all continues to get better, so looking forward to that.
The Goon......I can't believe I have not heard anybody talk about this book here. It is hilarious. I still have a lot to read but I got hooked with the first few issues I read (#34, 35 & 39). The book is so whitty and random that I just love it. If you haven't tried this book, please pick up an issue. I have started reading the trades and the early issues are strong, but not as good as the later issue. Love this book.

Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

Hellboy is simply incredible. The stories, the characters, the concept, the artwork--everything is brilliantly done.caxiotis wrote:I have been reading Hellboy, BPRD, and The Goon from Dark Horse.

BPRD took a while for me to get into as well mostly because of Guy's art. At first I didn't like it, but then it really grew on me and whenever I read the BPRD, I think of him. The stories and characters start to grow together as a team and book around the second tpb. Since Guy's no longer on the book, I wouldn't mind seeing Duncan Fregredo slide over from Hellboy to BPRD. His art is awesome too.caxiotis wrote: is just okay. If it wasn't part of the Hellboy universe I don't know if I would keep reading it. Thunderbolts was definitely in my top 3 Marvel books until the relaunch. Even when they had the Dark Avengers forced upon them, the Thunderbolts managed to stay interesting and incorporate this new stupidity well into the book.Lightning Strike wrote:Thunderbolts was cool until Marvel decided to relaunch the book again. Yeah, I didn't think I would like it when Luke took over as the team leader, but the book rocked! Then some genius at Marvel thought it would be a great idea to relaunch the book.Chiclo wrote:Thunderbolts was definitely in my top 3 Marvel books until the relaunch. Invincible 99 was meh. It's kind of just the stop-gap issue until 100. It's neat that every single page was a splash page, but the story didn't progress at all. The art wasn't that great either.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Kinda feel the other way round. I thought the story just managed to do enough to convince you that Dinosaurus isn't totally breaking character but the one page style just killed any enjoyment for me. Seems like a strange time to experiment with the format at issue 99... it'll look even stupider in trade.400yrs wrote:Invincible 99 was meh. It's kind of just the stop-gap issue until 100.
