Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
I am reading this series for the first time right now and I have to say, I am enjoying it. More so than the puns and set up towards jokes, I am enjoying the storytelling format. I can see this series fitting into the VEI universe as much as A&A. I could see Q&W fitting into a larger team book, perhaps a mini-series.
I think it is additionally a mistake to heap your disappointment about not getting a different title before this one onto this title. To each their own, of course.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
The Marvel Black Panther written by Priest at the time is excellent. It has the same storytelling technique as Quantum & Woody - but relies on more darkness vs humor. It's one of the few comics I own - outside of Valiants - from 1993 to 2012. And I own them all.

Nuff said.

I'd be interested if Priest was writing it. Heck, I'd just as soon Valiant dropped the dung-heap that is A&A and allocated monies to get Priest on board. That would be sweet.

Looks good! Tom Fowler (who did the Christmas card) is the artist. Asmus is writing.

Only read #1 of the old series. What's the relevance of the goat? Or just there for comedy purposes?

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
Glad Fowler got the gig, too bad it's this one.
I read Asmus's Cap and Bucky and promptly dropped the book, didn't care for it at all.
If this was Rai, EW or Ninjak my reaction would be-
For Q&W it is this-
My feelings on the Acclaim era border on hostility, I will give the first issue a try but winning me over will be an up hill battle.
If I really don't like it and it's forced into VEI continuity the entire universe will seem lesser to me, instead of being excited about it I kind of dread it.

I would have preferred a Rai, EW, or Ninjak as well but i'll give Q&W a shot. I like everything they've put out so far.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
Wow this move is already stirring things up-
Here is what Kevin Maguire had to say over at the BC message boards-
I will announce right now that if they have any intentions of re-vamping Trinity Angels without me, I will be 1000% against it. I should have the rights to the material, just as Priest/Bright should have the rights to Quantum and Woody.
Other poster-
Am I reading this right? Does this mean that you guys don't have the rights?
Maguire-
Nope. We Acclaim creators signed contracts before we started working on our projects that had a clause saying we could buy the rights to the material back for half the profits the material made in the previous 3 years. Several years after Acclaim went under, Priest and Bright tried to get the Q/W rights and were told that the contracts we signed were never submitted to a different division of Acclaim and were thus considered invalid. Someone else came in and bought up all the Valiant/Acclaim leaving us with nothing. I've been following what Priest/Bright were doing because I wanted the rights to Trinity Angels back. But the legal fees it would cost to get it back would just be too much for us. I'm pretty sure Priest/Bright are not pleased with the new Q/W, but I don't know that for a fact. As I said, I know if they went in and re-vamped Trinity Angels, I would be furious. There are only three properties that sprung completely from my imagination-Strikeback,Trinity Angels, and Tanga. I consider them my children and would not abide anyone else giving voice to those characters.

So what was the deal with this book? It looks like an ill-conceived, PG-13 Powerpuff Girls that lasted an undoubtedly riveting 12 issues. Was it anything good?hawkeyeps wrote:Wow this move is already stirring things up-

This isn't good news. It's one of those things that can never be settled definitively either. The properties were in such a state of limbo, I doubt the contracts are even still available. You would think VEI would try to make sure not to step on creators toes this early in, even if the rights are questionable. My hunch is the contracts have arcane clauses that default rights back to the company and the creators are the unfortunate losers in the legal trickery game. More than likely they signed away rights without realizing it - not their fault, in my opinion, as contracts are intentionally written in a way to be unintelligible, but seem to make sense on first glance. However, I doubt they would win even if they did sue for rights.
*SQUEE* your science, I have a machine gun.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
All of the Akklaim properties went through bankruptcy proceedings, that is going to change a lot of the contracts that were signed. If these creators were worried about their "babies" that would have been the time to deal with it, not now that there is potential $$$ to be made.
