Re: What comics are you reading now?
Went to the store and got a bunch of books I've been waiting to purchase. Of the ones I got, I read:
Saga 7 & 8. Excellent, as always.
Chew 30. Damn, man.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
My non-valiants this week were Saga 8 & Swamp Thing 15. Saga was excellent, though I am mentally scarred by images of that giant...
I've been on the fence about Swamp Thing for a number of months, I keep thinking I'll drop it... My LCS was down to one copy of #15 left this week; so I caved and bought it. I was disappointed to realize Paquette didn't draw the interior once I flipped through it at home.

After reading a bunch of Star Wars stuff (some good, some meh) I decided I wanted something different....
So I started The Maxx. I'm up to issue #4, so far so good.

I never got a chance to read that one. Heard mixed things. When you get towards the end, give us all a review.Elveen wrote:After reading a bunch of Star Wars stuff (some good, some meh) I decided I wanted something different....

I caught up on Hawkguy 4 - 6. #4 and #5 were solid issues (3.5 / 5), but when David Aja is on the book, it's in another stratosphere.MarkRoseHFX wrote:Couldn't agree more. It's my favorite non Valiant book.erwinrafael wrote:

I don't think there's a current mainstream American superhero comic book that can touch Hawkeye right now. Brilliant all the way. Entertaining and technically outstanding at the same time.

Yes indeed. Pulido did a good job and the book is good with him on it, but with Aja it's GREAT. #6 was like a breath of fresh air, such a400yrs wrote: I caught up on Hawkguy 4 - 6. #4 and #5 were solid issues (3.5 / 5), but when David Aja is on the book, it's in another stratosphere.

Shinku vol. 1: The Throne of Blood A fun read, but if you want a smart and thought provoking title then you should buy something else. Sadly this book doesn't finish the storyline properly because of the book being extremely late (it is an Image comic after all) hopefully Ron Marz and Lee Moder will get the series back on track and finish the story.

Marvel Team Up Vol 1 - 4 (Kirkman)
This was very bleh. Even the Freedom Ring storyline was lamer than I thought it would be. I have no desire to ever read this again.

Aja is channeling Chris Ware (Acme Novelty Library) with his layouts. And the head shots with the facial expressions are amazing. I love his panels during the Tony Stark - Hawkguy dialogue. Stark's expressions in the "Wall Street" dicussion are hilarious.400yrs wrote:I caught up on Hawkguy 4 - 6. #4 and #5 were solid issues (3.5 / 5), but when David Aja is on the book, it's in another stratosphere.MarkRoseHFX wrote:Couldn't agree more. I shake my head when I read in articles that Aja is a minimalist artist. Really? It's a stylistic choice only in Hawkguy. His art in Immortal Iron Fist and Daredevil is quite detailed. Which makes his Hawkeye art more amazing because it shows his range.
Matt Hollingsworth's colors are also great, fitting the mood needed for the particular issue. Just compare the colors in the first issue and in the holiday issue. Even the letterer, the legendary Chris, is doing a great job. Love the sound effect of the arrow crashing the glass in issue 5.
This book is firing on all cylinders right now. Even the letters section is entertaining.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
ASM 700 & Avenging Spider-Man 15.1 - Awesome!
Thor God of Thunder #2 - Good, but not worth $3.99 for 20 story pages.
Batman 14 - not as good as 13.
Aquaman 14, 15 - Throne of Atlantis - Apparently, Aquaman is still really, really good.
Animal Man 14 - Worst issue I've read. They've tried forcing this into the bigger universe including the JL Dark bunch. Meh.
Wake the *SQUEE* Up - Sucked.
This place has a 1 yr sub for $15.99 for several of the DC books:
https://www.tanga.com/
During checkout, put in the codeword "heroes" and they drop down to $15.99. Only good for a few more hours, I think. If you don't care about the shape of your books, it's a good deal (a little over a buck a book). I'm getting JL, Aquaman and Batman.
