True, but the two bolded statements above can be said about any cross-over.

Good series. I still have to pick up the last volume in trade, but a really solid series overall. Havent read any other Marvel books by Hickman, but hes a talented guy. And Gage is highly underated IMHO. Didn't realize there was an omnibus, but I guess that is a moot point since I have all but one volume in trade.Lightning Strike wrote:I just finished Secret Warriors omni and it was really, REALLY good. I loved the plot, the story and while the art at the end wasn't as good as the first 20 or so issues, this series was still very good. And you don't have to be a Nick Fury fan to enjoy this book. Hickman is an amazing writer and knows how to tell a story with great dialogue. He seems to have these great one liners that make you laugh even in the face of serious danger for the characters.
The best thing about this series is that it wasn't drawn out. It has a beginning, middle and end and there's no "fluff" issues that slow the pace of the story down. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Yeah Gage is a very good artist. I bought my omni from DCBS for $49.99BugsySig wrote:Good series. I still have to pick up the last volume in trade, but a really solid series overall. At VEI #0 (the first poker/Jeopardy game that Dino attended) he said that he wanted Valiant books to matter and be relevant, and he used Civil War as an example. At least that is what I remember.400yrs wrote:Civil War was pretty much the last decent crossover.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I just picked up the Chew TPB #4 for 1/2 price, so I decided to re-read #1-#3. Brilliant! Super good, great, stupendous!
What a great book. I'll read TPB #4 and then up to the Poyo 1 shot. A few of the books will be the 1st time I've read them.

Just read Saga #1-3 and thought it was amazing. I have been holding these for a while and can't believe that I have not read them sooner. Excited to read #4 and 5. What a great story.

Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

I really must read this. The guy at my LCS has pointed it to me before, said it was really different and funny, but I had other priorities.Elveen wrote:I just picked up the Chew TPB #4 for 1/2 price, so I decided to re-read #1-#3. Brilliant! Super good, great, stupendous!

I've never read anything by Layman, but the hype around Chew gives me hope for 'Tec come October.

Wow. Can't believe you hadn't read it yet. #4 and #5 are really good too. It's going to be a great trade, but it reads very well in single issues for sure.

Pick up the first trade for $10 retail. It's awesome. Completely different.

I still like the idea of Doctor Doom running around the DC universe. He would be the most beloved member of the Justice League within a week.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Today's buys (no spoilers):
TWD #101 - 7/10
Bloodshot #2 - 9/10 Bloody goodness!
Harbinger #3 - 8/10 Lots going on in this one. A nice, meaty read!
Saga #6 - 9/10 What a final page! 2 month hiatus. Argghhh!
Revival #2 - 7/10 Not quite as good as the first, but solidly introduced some new characters.
The letters pages in Saga are awesome. His Dachsund's name is Hamburger K. Vaughan.
He also wrote something that I 100% agree with regarding later printings of variants on issues 1-5. He wrote, "The team defided against doing alternate covers for each of our new printings, since those tend to end up with speculators instead of curious new readers." They did different colored logos instead to distinguish the different printings as they did on Chew. I like that method alot better.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I have to admit, I usually only buy a later printing if it has a different cover, I don't mind the same cover with alternate coloring, I get his point, but it's a wasted opportunity to showcase new art, why waste that?

Someone has to do that new art. If it's only one person working on the book, like Staples, that takes time away from the subsequent issues. Plus, the main reason - bkv's answer.

DMZ 71 and 72. I dropped this series in the 40s, but picked these up to see how the book ended. They were good. If they ever do this in HCs, I'll likely pick them up.

Was that the DC one way back in the 80s? You are probably right. For the most part, all crossovers are rubbish. When I say "decent" regarding Civil War, that's kind of based on the garbage that came after it moreso than the overall quality of that particular event itself.

Blackest Night was pretty ace to be honest imo. And I thought the concept for Civil War was there, just went on and on and got muddled up.400yrs wrote:SnotDrip wrote:Must disagree with you on this one....it was Crisis on Infinite Earths.400yrs wrote:Civil War was pretty much the last decent crossover.
