Quantum & Woody is an UNBELIEVABLY great idea.
When I finished reading, I went back and read again. Then, I found the whole Black Panther Priest run. Excellent.
Then, I went through the comic back issues, and picked up nearly everything I could that Owsley/Priest had done....
A few MAJOR mis-steps there...
But no regrets, I am a Priest fan.
And Q&W.
Spit-balling here.....
But Quantum & Woody may be the most consistent book in all of the old stables.
It's short, certainly... But all good. In my clearly biased opinion.

Haha man......Valiant is just killing it with announcements and teasers this year, it's f'n genius! I'm so excited for whatever they have planned for us, this is going to be one of the funnest and most exciting years of comics ever for me and I'm glad Valiant is at the forefront!

If this teaser didn't come across as tongue-in-cheek, I'd tend to agree with you. But, I think within the context of a Q&W title promo they aren't taking themselves that seriously for real.bygranddesign wrote:I know it's supposed to be silly but I think this is bad advertising
I get they want to contrast the "world greatest comic company" with the "world's worst team" and it's fairly clever .. but the biggest joke might be that they are calling themselves the "world greatest comic book company". Lets not get ahead of ourselves. What is that claim based on? 5 titles?
Although, lets also keep in mind that they did just win a Publisher Of The Year award, so...

This is a title I had never read previously, but having checked out an issue on comixology, I will give it a shot (if its going to be a new title). I can see how this title will face the same kind of difficulty as in A&A, where there is a classic run held in very high esteem to live up to.

I didn't like it when it orginally came out.Elveen wrote:I was in the minority that was not into Q&W the first time around.
Never understood why people did.
I did notice ( worked in a comic shop) people buying it who never brought valiant / acclaim in the past ~ people raved about it.
About 10 years after, while completing my accliam collection ~ brought all the issues.
Very well done, extremmely well written and matching art. One the better side of the acclaim line.
Looking forward to the missing issues
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Love Quantam and woody when I began reading it. Not sure how it will do without Priest and Bright. I can't wait to see what valiant does. Hope it is as funny as the original.

Would love it if instead of appearing in a new title, Q&W makes their first VEI appearance in Archer and Armstrong.
That would be hilarious.

Those new "old" Quantum and Woody stories that got announced with the Comixology release. Did they end up materialising? This couldn't just be them could it... Sorry if this is a n00b moment

I've thought of that as well, along with a VALIANT Masters collection. The only thing that makes me think otherwise was the new logo tease from a few weeks ago. All the other Masters collections use the original logos, so there wouldn't be a need for a new one.peepholism wrote:Those new "old" Quantum and Woody stories that got announced with the Comixology release. This thread has me thinking back to the old series and some of it's classic moments...
The scene where they're at a mall, pass by an arcade and there is a guy dressed like the Acclaim Ninjak outside doing pretend karate moves to advertise the game. Woody busts out laughing so hard at the poor guy... and laughs and laughs... till ultimately the poor sap storms off in a huff.

When they switched bodies, had to go to the bathroom, and held each others' members because it's really their own members.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
If they do bring it back I hope it is it's own thing and not in the VEI universe, that way I can ignore it.
I'll give the first issue a try but it will have to be beyond amazing, I will judge very harshly as I feel this bumps titles we all want far more.
As a buddy comedy book I feel it is redundant with A&A and not needed.
It may have been the best Acclaim book but that is not saying much as those books were amazingly crappy, that entire era lead me to a ten year hiatus from comics all together. I have some Acclaim but can't bring myself to read them, I flip through the pages and they actually make me angry just looking at them.
Up until now everything VEI has done has been pretty much universally praised, this is a polarizing move and could be a huge mistake. If the book is out of VEI continuity then that is the best of both worlds, Q&W fans can have their book and Valiant fans can have there pristine universe uncluttered with jokey late 90s drek.
If only half of us hard core Vfans take to the book I think it's doomed, where as EW, Ninjak or RAI would recieve about 99% approval or more.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
I'm in the "didn't like it so much" group.
It's entertaining, but it seems like it's just the same joke, over and over. Any "story" just seemed to be contrived to be a joke delivery mechanism, and the jokes got wearisome.
It may be that I was reading it in large doses after the fact. It may have been better as a monthly book.
That said, I'm anxious to see what Valiant could do with this title. I like the idea of expanding the Universe in different direction.

I'm actually gonna be disappointed if they make Quantum and Woody girls or something like that. The Beyonder wrote:I've never read the original, but will give this a shot.
That being said, along with Archer and Armstrong, we've now got two 'buddy books', assuming Quantum and Woody is remotely close to what I understand the original series to be.
EDIT: I see now that they may just be part of another title, which sits better with me!

If anyone hasn't read this before (like I hadn't) I think it puts the book into great perspective:
http://digitalpriest.com/legacy/comics/qwoody2.html
After reading it, I hope VALIANT takes a new Q+W book in the direction Priest and Bright saw it, and not how it was marketed or perceived. Humorous, but not parody; a superhero drama at heart.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
Agree with Hawkeyeps! If Q&W does make a comeback then hopefully it's not part of VEI. I picked up all of the Acclaim copies out of mis-placed loyalty to the company, I doubt I'll be picking up new books if they are released. I'm close to dropping A&A and another buddy book doesn't appeal. I'm hoping for some brand new characters to have their own book this year!hawkeyeps wrote:If they do bring it back I hope it is it's own thing and not in the VEI universe, that way I can ignore it.

As for Priest coming back to write it, I don't see that as very likely. Not only because I think he retired from comics, but also because VEI has yet to enlist any of the old talents from back in the day they seem to be targeting fresh talents

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
I think it's just speculation. VALIANT has never teased a new title as of yet, only appearances (Ninjak, EW, HARD Corps). So there are three possibilities, or combination there of:hawkeyeps wrote:blujay wrote:How are we supposed to have an A&A + Q&W crossover like that?hawkeyeps wrote:If they do bring it back I hope it is it's own thing and not in the VEI universe, that way I can ignore it.

1: Q+W get a new series
2: Q+W are reintroduced in another series (like A&A)
3: VALIANT finally publishes those unpublished issues and/or a Masters collection.

That is definitely the case.Dr. Solar wrote: It may be that I was reading it in large doses after the fact. It may have been better as a monthly book.
Valiant hasn't refuted that this is a new series. I'm hoping it's not just an announcement of a reprint or the characters popping into another book.
Q&W is the kind of book that if done right, it could have the buzz with it that none of the other books have had so far (aside from X-O). Q&W is different from your standard super hero stuff (like the rest of Valiant). I'm already seeing a bigger online buzz with this book than say Shadowman or Ninjak or EW.
This really could be a make or break type of move for VEI. If it bombs, they are going to alienate alot of fringe readers who may have ventured into the bigger universe. If it is good, they may get some of those readers to check out the other titles.
I'm really hoping they got Priest on board.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
I never read Q+W but I will buy this title and give it at least 6 months to a year before I decide on keeping it if they get their own monthly. I would be willing to read about almost anything new that Valiant puts out, just to see what they do with it. With the teams they have now, I have never hated anything. There have been parts of books that I didn't love, but overall, Valiant is kicking *SQUEE* with their re-launch. I have faith in that same team to create new stuff that kicks *SQUEE* too even if its not based on something I know and love.
If its re-prints of old stuff, that's good too, then I won't have to track those old ones down to see what all the fuss is a about.

Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?
