Huh. Never read the original. Not sure if I will pick up the new series. Can't read the article from work, but will check it out when I get home.

I never read it either. Since its Valiant i'll give it a shot, but i'm surprised they didn't release several other books first. Maybe someone who read the origianl has some insight.SJS4 wrote:Huh. I've never read the original, but will give this a shot.
That being said, along with Archer and Armstrong, we've now got two 'buddy books', assuming Quantum and Woody is remotely close to what I understand the original series to be.
EDIT: I see now that they may just be part of another title, which sits better with me!

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
Not much to read. The teaser image is all we have. Is it a new series? Most likely. But it could be a reintroduction to the VU as a guest appearance. We shall see.SJS4 wrote:Huh. I never read the original until recently, and I wonder how they will fit given A&A is the resident buddy-comedy-adventure. Though, if they ride the "Superhero" theme, that's something VEI doesn't have as of now.
I am now also expecting another teaser tomorrow...it's officially spring...give me Rai, VALIANT...give me Rai

Loved the original and will give this every chance. Trusting in Dinesh, Warren, and crew that they know what they're doing.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
I know it's supposed to be silly but I think this is bad advertising
I get they want to contrast the "world greatest comic company" with the "world's worst team" and it's fairly clever .. but the biggest joke might be that they are calling themselves the "world greatest comic book company". Lets not get ahead of ourselves. What is that claim based on? 5 titles?
Valiant should be marketed as a David vs Goliath company that simply creates great comics that are part of rich superhero universe .. and the praise they get should come from others. I'll scream my love for Valiant from the virtual rooftops but when they start patting themselves on the back - I think that is a bit of a turn off.
I love a lot of their marketing strategies so far - the variant covers, The talking covers, The uncompromising/Undaunted Ad pages, the potential Toy line .. etc ... but this doesn't work for me especially when it's tied into characters that I don't think many people have even heard of.
Never read Quantum and Woody so maybe that's part of my reason to not embrace this .. but maybe just a silly picture of that goat with the words coming soon would have worked better for me.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
This will be tough. The original was close to perfect. Huge amounts of intelligent social commentry behind great humour. 100% tied to the creator. I can not see how a new version can match, unless they got Priest onboard. Still I look forward to it.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
Depends on what the book is like. I'll need more details before I make a decision whether or not to pick it up, but the more serious, realistic side of Valiant (Harbinger, Bloodshot) is what appeals to me.MrBigFeathas wrote:This will be the first VEI title I pass on.

Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
If the newsarama article (10 things...) linked to above is correct, Priest didn't care for the "World's worst" tagline. So unless he's come to love it, or is desperate for work, I can't see him being back if VEI's first announcement reuses that tagline....magnusr wrote:This will be tough. Re: QUANTUM & WOODY IN JULY!!!
Am I prejudiced? Yes.
I loved Quantum & Woody. Pretty much no redeeming value to the title, but... A whole bunch of fun.
For those who didn't read the old stuff and hate it already... Reserve your judgement. This may be great stuff.
For those who hated the original read, and are basing their taste on that experience, go back and read Archer & Armstrong 23, Shadowman 37, X-O Manowar 52, and Harbinger 31.
Then, read any comic from the new Valiant titles, and try to tell me the old stuff was always better.
Was it Acclaim? Yes. Was it the best stuff Acclaim was putting out? For my money, yes. It certainly was piles better than Ninjak and Trinity Angels. And I could argue it was better than any other title. The only book that sold more issues in that era was Shadowman.
So far, these guys have a hit on my hands. Five times. Quantum and Woody is a distinctly unique title than ANY other book - even though it may closely resemble the A & A book. It may or may not fit within the new universe.
But I trust the direction of the ship so far. And will read - with nervous excitement. My expectations for this book may be higher than any other.
But I know I will be buying.

As a new fan everything is pretty much unknown to me. But Valiant hasn't had a misstep yet so I will give this a chance.
This was not on the list of new comics from Bleeding Cool so it will be interesting to see what happens.
I still want Rai

Never read the original stuff, but I'll give this a try. Not anywhere in my list of titles I want them to put out, but I'll trust that VEI knows what they're doing putting a second buddy book out like this. They said 'best idea wins', so this had better be an unbelievably awesome idea.
