I'm on vacation this week so I have been going around scouting locations for this years Free Comic Book Day event..

I read on another post, 1 of our members had a store out on Long Island...

so, ofcourse I bee-lined it too Shirley Long Island..about an hour away...to Atomic Comics

MAC has a very nice shop...only open about 5 months...

he has X-O, shadowman posters around store...stocked up on latest VALIANTS including trades...he puts out a newsletter for his customers indicating books they should be reading...the Bloodhsot trade right on the front of the newsletter!...

while there I met a few VALIANT fans...seems his store attracts many guys into old and new VALIANT!!!

Thanks MAC for showing me around your store and the Batman INC #8..lol !!

I think I've asked this before, but Helios, is that Golden Memories shop still in business out your way? His Selden store was my regular LCS back in the 90s but I know Vinnie also had one out in the Mastic area.

The Golden Memories in Shirley closed up almost 2 years ago. Vinny's cousin Rich owned it, but he was not really into comics much, mostly a card gamer hang-out, especially towards the end.

How do you guys make it opening new shops with the economy like it is? Owning/running a comic book store is my dream job. I just don't see how it's real possible these days. Everywhere I've looked for info on starting a shop, they say 'Don't expect to make a profit for several years'. How can you afford to run a business like that if it's bleeding out for multiple years without any income to live on. I've always had it as my dream if I ever came into big money somewhere that I would open a shop and not worry about just breaking even, but I can't see doing it any other way.
