The New Warriors
Well, the New Warriors are my all time favorite book. Volume 1, where Mark Bagley pencilled and stories were by Fabian Nicieza. It was a team of super powered teenagers, and I was a teenager, so the book really spoke to me. Very nostalgic about it, and it's writers, and artists, which include Mark Bagley, Darrick Robertson, and the one and only Patrick Zircher. Yep, one in the same.
This was pretty much the only book I read that wasn't Valiant back in the day. Anyone else have anything to say about New Warriors Volume 1?

It just goes to show that, Acclaim Comics notwithstanding, Nicieza was a top notch writer. until Marvel somehow decided to give him half of their books to write.

I was fairly new to comics when I started picking that up. I always thought Mark Bagley was great on it. Years later he was the NEW hot artist on Ultimate spidey!

Re: The New Warriors
That was a fun book. I remember reading my sister's issues growing up and to this day I'm thrilled when something is done with one of the team, Speedball in particular. I was probably one of the few that tried out Avengers Academy due to him being in the cast. I even dug the latest incarnation with depowered mutants. It was like X-Factor is now. A witty use of characters most people didn't care about.
I wouldn't mind seeing another incarnation using under-used teenaged characters and if Speedball should be mentoring them I'd mind even less.

Re: The New Warriors
And I just finished reading the very first issue of it, which was (and still is at the time of this post) free on Comixology. Not a bad series and I do love the concept. Although I am confused as to why Nova's costume was red and surprised to see the "bucket-head" insult from Ultimate Spider-Man is older than the cartoon.

Re: The New Warriors
I think the red costume was just a makeshift costume, since Rich Ryder was no longer Nova at that time. And yes, "Buckethead" is a recurring nickname for Nova, just as he calls Speedball "Toothpick" on a regular basis. Glad you liked #1, and if you can keep reading, I'd like to think that you'd love the rest of the series as well. Issues 11-13 are pretty awesome with many many big name cameos.tetrisdork wrote:And I just finished reading the very first issue of it, which was (and still is at the time of this post) free on Comixology. Speedball's into sado masochism since (and I only know this second-hand) the New warriors caused that MU storyline where Iron Man forces all heroes to register (some junk like that) and SB wore an outfit that caused his powers to stab him with spikes or something.

I liked NW back in the day also.

I liked NightThrasher the most. They did bring the book back when no hero had powers and wolverine's sidekick was on the team.
Wasn't very good.

Re: The New Warriors
Well, they could always relaunch New Warriors with Brian Wood as writer. But that's just me.

Re: The New Warriors
Loved New Warriors volume 1. Dropped vol. 2 pretty quickly. Was gravely disappointed with the reality TV turn of vol. 3 (Night Thasher doing that? Really Marvel?), and even though I read all of vol. 4, I had no clue who any of the characters were since they were poorly delineated in the writing, and all looked samey in the art.
