I have totally missed the boat again on this series. Is it really that good?

I don't know that it is as good as all the hype it is getting. I'd recommend trying the first trade. I really enjoyed it.nutflush76 wrote: Is it really that good?

Manhattan Projects #1 seems to be doing $50 raw with some hitting $75.

NM copies are $75-90 from what I've seen. There are dome VF copies going for 40-50.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
My question has always been what type of person buys some of these moderns at the huge prices. I mean I like moderns quite a bit but if I am going to blow $300, I would rather buy a BA High grade Semi Marvel Key, like an IF #14, which I know may not be worth $20 in 5 years.

Had to search for your referance. Not a marvel collector.
I do see your meaning, and appreciate the comment

Puts things in perspective, big time.
I have forked out the cash on a cgc graded comic. I like the series very much, it has taken me by surprise how much I like it. Over time I have collected lots of comic books and read far more.
Strange how I bought a comic cgc graded comic from a series only 9 issues old, yet still have to complete issue runs of other titles. Why? why not purchase a proven seller in cgc grade or ~ RAW at the same price.
Well, for me it was 'I can get that comic anytime at that price' ~(refering to old school comic classics) , I may not be able to ever get this current comic at this price again! Now I maybe wrong, but unlike other things I purchase or invest in ~ this has an emotional purspective.

It has a very strong cult following. I've managed to pickup 4 of these books for cover at different LCS. One is on ebay right now, another will be shortly afterward....the print runs on PP is around 5k, +/-, so there's not a lot of them out there, but speculators have had a big push in the pricing...nutflush76 wrote:Peter Panzerfaust #8 with the first appearance of Captain Hook:

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
Also, do you guys think there's an Image bubble going on now? It seems many titles are being hyped. I know some are good, but a lot of these books like MP, and Revival, which have print runs greater than VE1 books are selling well above cover. I haven't read really any of the books to say it's justified, but I look at Harbinger being a great title, and the issues aren't worth more than cover.

The thing with the Image books that we need to remember is
There are a lot of image books that don't do anything on he
Back issue market. It just seems like a bunch, but it is actually
A smallish % of Image books that jump in price. Cheap bins are full
Of image books.

This is VERY true. Don't just buy multiples of every image book you will have a ton of books that are worthless. It's simply not worth it. Very few hold value.Elveen wrote:The thing with the Image books that we need to remember is

Okay, I guess it's the CGC boards that just seem a lot more image-speculative based. There's a thread on East-West (?) where the people in the thread have already pre-ordered 500 or something crazy....betterthanezra wrote:This is VERY true. Well there goes any chance of that comic having value. If 500 copies are being boughten for speculation, then there are going to be too many copies on the secondary marketGGSAE wrote:Okay, I guess it's the CGC boards that just seem a lot more image-speculative based. Which book are we talking about 500 copies being speculated on?

It's sad, but I think most collectors blame Valiant for the bust in the 90's and the new VEI will have to be around for awhile for them to take notice that the new books are quite good.

Man, I ordered 4 copies. May not be such a good idea. But it does seem like a good book. I am actually looking even more forward to Jupiter's Legacy by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely coming in April. That book sounds like it's gonna be good.GGSAE wrote:East of West. Oh and talking about expensive moderns:

I didn't even like this book that much. But I do love Aja's art.

Part of me doesn't want the back issue heat to hit the variants simply because of that. I *SQUEE* and moan about them, but I've held my own so far in getting a good chunk of them at good prices. I think it may take another year or two for people to take notice...Elveen wrote:But ....... there will be.
