Shadowman #3
Just finished reading off Comixology. Great read!! Revelations on Deadside, Jar-Jar Monkey, and a visit from the past. Amazing art from Patch. My only regret is that it's another month wait until the next installment!!
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

Don't feel too horrible. I still have 3 weeks wait time until I get my hands on all this months books to read them for the first time!Keith wrote:Just finished reading off Comixology. Great read!! Glad to hear it is a good issue though. Looking forward to seeing more unfold in this title.

Re: Shadowman #3
This was the best issue yet. Only 3 in, I know, but huzzah! Even though I read all the previews, there was still so much meat to this story that I didn't feel like I cheated myself. It advanced the storyline, had action, answered some questions, looked beautiful and has me anticipating the next one.
A whole frigging month away.

Re: Shadowman #3
I liked the issue. As Pixierosa said, good action, plot development, some answers...But I found some of the dialogue needs work (again).
It's really my only complaint, but some of it comes off as cheesy ("I hate plan B.") while at other times its a bit confusing (Twist's conversation with Lionel, Jack's convo with his Dad). I think the purpose is to be mysterious, but its more clunky than anything. Maybe it will read better on the second go round...
The book is beautiful, though, and the plot is moving right along at a good pace. I just need more Shadoman and less Jack, at least for the next few issues. I feel like I have a good sense of who Jack is at this point, now I want to learn what Shadowman is all about.

Re: Shadowman #3
Posting this from my car as I read Shadowman #3 waiting on my girlfriend to get out of work. Great issue! The art was stunning as it usually is and the story was really fun, though I'm kind of bummed that nothing cool came of the Mr. Twist encounter as I was hoping for a big throwdown. I did love the scene where Jack was talking with a former Shadowman, which I'm guessing was his father. The whole thing was pretty mysterious and epic.
Awesome stuff!

Yep, that was his father in a weakened state. Figured we'd see him again at least one more time.
I can't wait to find out more about the Shadowman loa himself and Jack's family legacy - the whys and hows.
Interesting about the "gatekeeper" - assumed they are referring to Darque.

Solid issue. Art is very good. Zircher is the most polished artist at VEI IMHO (but to be honest not my personal favorite).
Still kind of "meh" on the story. Nothing particularly bad, just no "hook" that has me interested in the characters or story.
Liked the Jaunty character, curious to see his role (if any) in future roles.

In voodoo, refers to the object and sometimes the incantation, too. Amulets can be considered gris gris.Brother Darque wrote:whats a "Gris Gris"?

Re: Shadowman #3
Seriously though, really good issue over all I think Shadowman is my #3 favourite now behind XO and Harb.
The story moved along well and I think we're in for some serious Shadowman action next issue.
The visuals were amazing Zircher's art with Reber's etherial colours really made for a great looking book

Re: Shadowman #3
I rather enjoyed. It's my favorite Valiant series now coming in behind X-O. One of the interesting things that was pointed out in the review on IGN was that Jack gets a choice. He can either take the job as Shadowman or not. And the other thing that stands out is that it's a do it or don't job it's not harped on that the world would end if he didn't take it only that the curse would end. My only complaint is that the costume is pretty meh. Hopefully we either get a redesign soon or at least an explanation for why the para-military look.

Re: Shadowman #3
Personally, I love his costume. I like the dark look and feel mixed with the modernized feel if it all, I think he's one of the most interesting looking characters in all of comics. I like how his father looked a little better though, especially as ragged as he appeared in issue #3, it was pretty awesome.
I plan on reading this issue again tonight, and then one more time before I crank open issue #4 once its released. That seems to be how I read my comics. Read the previous issue first, than the new one twice, and then once more before tackling the latest issue. Plus I flip through the comics all month long to take in the stunning art.

Re: Shadowman #3
FWIW, while it wasn't in the book, one of the creators (can't remember if it was Jordan or Zircher) posted here that the loa essentially takes images from the person's own "imagination" (for lack of a better word) and that was what defines the look of "Shadowman."dornwolf wrote:...or at least an explanation for why the para-military look.
It certainly would explain why Shadowman has a more "modern" look right off the bat in this incarnation, and also happens to leave open the possibility for changes to the look at the series progresses. I am pretty sure he said this would eventually be explained in the book as well, but probably not for a while yet. Someone else can correct me if I got any of the above wrong.

Hmmm.. I read that as his father was the gatekeeper, that there haven't been any incursions from Deadside (and maybe what has kept Darque away so long) because of him.pixierosa wrote: Interesting about the "gatekeeper" - assumed they are referring to Darque.

Re: Shadowman #3
I wondered that, too, when I re-read it. I don't think Darque is in the deadside persay, but elsewhere and needs to get through the gateway. Even with Josiah guarding it, apparently Darque still could have broken through with enough energy.Keith wrote:Hmmm.. With all the "drained" ghosts, I'm guessing that Darque needs the necromantic energy source (provided by Twist) b/c he used up the ghost batteries.
If Josiah was the gatekeeper, why wasn't he allowing others to move on/about like they used to? If it's a gateway to heaven and other places... or perhaps he was picking and choosing. Maybe they will expound on this a bit.
Also, I loved the whole natives, visitors, etc., speech, especially when the hill they were stepping on was actually a large creature. Awesome.

Just read it before leaving for work this morning. Awesome read. Very excited. I'm curious to see if Josiah's passing means that the gate is unguarded now. Also, if it is, will Darque know immediately. Really liking Dox in this issue. Seems pretty fearless. Also, pretty powerful if he has Twist a little stymied. Wonder if Jaunty will remain a monkey throughout the series? He sort of indicates that he just changes at will (I know he just refers to his speech, but since the previous incarnation could change, maybe he can?).

Re: Shadowman #3
The gatekeeper aspect creates the most questions. I agree Darque may not be in Deadside, but needs to pass through there in order to return to Earth. Jaunty says something about Deadside being the border between all places.
Perhaps Josiah forced/trapped Darque in yet another realm (Heaven?), and now guards the gate between it and Deadside. The Shadowman can move freely through the Deadside to Earth, but he chose to stay to block this location.
If Darque makes it through to the Deadside, he likely needs the Shadowman (again) to pass back to Earth. Hence the search for Jack.

Re: Shadowman #3
Am I the only one who felt that Shadowman (Josiah) looks somewhat sad and/or ashamed while talking to Jack? I don't know what it is but he appears to be very sunken with his head bowed down over the last page or two he appears in, probably because he's sad/ashamed that he had to leave his son behind before he was born. I don' know, just thought I'd bring it up.
