Re: Favourite Valiant Title 2012
Let's continue this broken record as both X-O and Harbinger have been strong titles. Went with X-O based on it being the lead-off title and having read the very 1st issue of X-O (1992), did a better job of developing Aric's origin, acquisition of the armor, and heading to present-day Earth.

I voted for X-O, but Bloodshot is a close second for me.

X-O for me, A&A close second. Honestly I'm not feeling the love for Harbinger yet. It's getting close to a point where I may have to drop it. Everything else is good, Shadowman hasn't quite won me yet but thats mostly because it's only had a couple of issues.

CBR Released their top 100 for 2012, and Harbinger was the only Valiant title at number 86. Here's the list if anyone is interested...

As much as I like their stories and forums, their reviews and rankings are extremely Big 2 biased. So take whatever lists they produce with a grain of salt.GGSAE wrote:CBR Released their top 100 for 2012, and Harbinger was the only Valiant title at number 86. This was also a fan vote, so obviously there are more Big 2 fans voting. No way 85 books were better than Harby this year.

There were a number of indy titles in the top ten, but I hear what you're saying. There was definitely some *SQUEE* books in their ahead of Harbinger, I think I saw buffy the vampire slayer among them.BugsySig wrote:As much as I like their stories and forums, their reviews and rankings are extremely Big 2 biased. Hey! No, you're absolutely right. I love Whedon's Buffy, but this book is stanky. Pains me to admit it.GGSAE wrote:

Not saying everyone needs to put Harby in their top 10, and there were definitely some incredible Indie books this year (Saga, Fatale, Locke & Key, The Manhattan Projects) and even a few from the Big 2 (Hawkeye and Wonder Woman come to mind).GGSAE wrote:There were a number of indy titles in the top ten, but I hear what you're saying. But as a frequenter of the CBR forums, I know they get a very heavy Big 2 audience (not surprising, of course), so it's not a shock to see so many Big 2 books ranked higher. Whether they deserve it or not is a different story...
If you look, however, at the various recent best of 2012 lists compiled by comic news reporters, reviewers and, especially, comic creators, Harby, XO and A&A are often among the top 25, 10 or even 5 in many cases.

Re: Favourite Valiant Title 2012
It would have been nice to see Harbinger place higher on that list (along with other Valiant titles), but it's good to see it there anyway - hopefully it'll help attract some more curious readers into the fold. I can understand the bias towards Big 2 books since it was a fan voted list, but those fans just don't know what they're missing!BugsySig wrote:If you look, however, at the various recent best of 2012 lists compiled by comic news reporters, reviewers and, especially, comic creators, Harby, XO and A&A are often among the top 25, 10 or even 5 in many cases.
Also good to know the various people in the industry are really taking note of what's happening at Valiant and talking it up... If that keeps up, more people are bound to try them out.

Seriously - quitting smokeless tobacco was easier than quitting Buffy comics. And the smokeless tobacco may have been better for me than Buffy comics.

Re: Favourite Valiant Title 2012
According to the comics, the author of "Twinkle" based Edward on Spike after they had a brief tryst.
I think that was in the IDW comics, though, and that may not count anymore.

Re: Favourite Valiant Title 2012
I'm not really connecting with the cast at all, it feels very much like Morning Glories did to me - Highly polished and clearly well done, but maybe not quite to my liking. Not dropping it yet though, I'll probably let it get to issue 12 then properly decide. I want to love it, I just get through every issue thinking it was well done but not really feeling entertained or involved.manga4life wrote:Whaaaaaat?! No love for Harbinger?! My favorite in order are:
1.) Harbinger
2.) A&A
3.) X-O
4.) Bloodshot
5.) Shadowman
I do want to say all boks are awesome, except I have a problem with Shadowman because of the following parts of issue #1:
At the introduction of Mr.twist, he says "call me Mr. Twist"
At the introduction of Jack as Shadowman, he says "I'm Shadowman"
To me these kinda introductions are corny and lack imagination. Even when I was reading issues #2-3, I kept thinking about the above phrases, which is sadly affecting my perspective on the whole series.

I am bumping this thread instead of creating yet another one (you guys must hate when the new blood comes in here

Harbinger is my favourite title having taken over from Bloodshot. I was only reading Bloodshot and Shadowman until the recommendations for Harbinger swayed me and now I am totally engulfed with Valiant. This is the most fun I have had in comics in quite a while.
If I was to put them in order;

The enjoyment factor of another newbie ...
1) HARBINGER (First Valiant issue I tried a few months ago and still the best to me)
2) BLOODSHOT (Really like the art. And brutality)
3) X-O (Enjoy the idea of essentially having Conan taking Iron Man's armor. Oh and the brutality
)
4) SHADOWMAN (Could easily move up with more issues. I'm a huge Dr. Strange fan so this has an edge)
5) A&A *ready to duck the rocks coming my way* (Just an okay title for me. But I get it to support the company)
