Valiant google+ community

Post by Man Of The Atom »

Not sure if anybody here uses google+ or not, but something called communities has just been added to it and there is not yet a Valiant community. It seems like the communities are just basically being used to talk about topics with people who have similar interests.

My first thought was that we already have valiantfans.com, which is everything and a million times more than a google+ community could ever be. That being said, my second thought was, it probably couldn't hurt to have the presence of Valiant lovers in all areas possible.

Interesting thing that I noticed: In the last 20 minutes comic book related communities on g+ went from about 7 to 20.

So, it is definitely a new thing that people are taking advantage of. What do you guys think? Would anybody here use it?

Eh, I decided to go ahead and make one. I am thinking of calling it Valiant Comic Fans. Does that sound cool?

I will make it a public thing so that people don't have to be invited. If anybody thinks this is lame let me know.

I just joined the G+ community for Valiant Comic Fans. :)

There's also a Comic Book Community: https://plus.google.com/communities/116 ... 2726311437

I'm a big fan of social networks/media. I'm finding this forum to be a bit old school-- which is fine if that's everyone else's thing. Forums just doesn't integrate well into my workflow of how I consume and interact with digital information. Also a bit of a pain to search for things with keywords.

Glad you started it up on G+, cuz I was going to if no one else did. Let's bring some 'new school' into the VF universe!

I just joined...I know little about how these things work. I'm definitely old school, but I'll give it a try.

Welcome to the boards!! :thumb: and post often.

It is kind of old school, but if you are into Valiant this place is a must. You won't find a more passionate group of fans anywhere else. These boards are very active, full of good people, and sometimes you will get Valiant related info here first.

You might also want to check out http://onlythevaliant.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it's the best podcast there is. You can take that to the bank and smoke it.

Thanks for joining the g+ community it should end up being a cool thing.

I'm sure the community here is excellent and the interaction is pretty good. And I do follow OTV podcast, it's excellent.

I have no qualms with any of that. It's just the content delivery-- the traditional forum, which is quite 'old school', which doesn't quite fit into my workflow. I have to go to the content, the forum, to consume information. G+, Facebook, Twitter, and to some degree even StackExchange and other modern web/mobile apps has the data coming to me for consumption because I'm already there.

Yes there are email notifications, but I still have to arrive here. If I'm on one of my mobile devices, I may have to login here. It certainly would be nice if phpBB had integration with FB/Twitter/Google authentication for logins.

I'm just nitpicking here. In the large scheme of things, these are minor things. I understand that I'm also a techie (maybe even a tech snob) that loves to live on the bleeding edge of technology. I almost always try the latest and great out there out, update my software often, and generally abandon the old for the new(er).

Besides, it's not about the technology anyway, it's about the community, the people.

I'm old enough to have used BBs, AOL, and forums-- but the younger generations may not. And I hope they don't turn away from the VF community because it's based on an older platform for exchanging information. I myself would draw the line if VFs were based entirely on IRC channels. That's too old and way out of my comfort zone to reach out to.

Here's to the G+ community, to growing/extending the Valiant fanbase, G+ Hangouts, and beyond!

Just an update. The google+ Valiant Fans Community is now up to 14 people! :thumb:

I know a few of the people are from this forum, but I don't think that they all are, which is cool.

I think this will get you there if you want to check it out:

Hey, for the record, I understand the concepts behind social media and all that stuff well enough - I'm just *SQUEE* at using it.

So the idea is totally tops, you guys go ahead and give it your all! The more people involved in social media, the better!

I'll be busy inventing the wheel in my cave.
