Where do you put your comic boxes?

Post by Todd Luck »

Here's my situation:

I'm moving in less than two monthes and will FINALLY have access to my comic boxes! They've been in storage for about two years (because of lack of room). I've got 4 long boxes and 10 short ones and I'm moving into a two bed room apartments.

What's the most inexpensive and convenient thing to do with them? I was thinking about buying two fold-out tables (one to hold the long boxes and another to hold atleast 8 of the short ones). Anyone got a better idea or any suggestions?

if by fold out tables you mean shelves in the closet then yes. :thumb:

Have you ever thought about legal-size file cabinets? I've seen some pics where people have used these metal cabinets for storing their comics, I think they say each drawer will hold up to 500 comics! It was on "Spider-Bob's" website - here's a pic:

It sounds interesting, if a little expensive. Also, I believe they claim that the 4-mil Mylars will fit inside them, unlike current comic boxes.

Just a suggestion...

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Those cabinets are usually pretty expensive. I have a full room for my comics but have many more boxes. The least expensive way is just to stack them but I have them on metal braced wooden shelves I found at Menards that work perfect. I will have to take a picture and put it on the site as the whole room is comics, statues, and posters/prints!

I want to put most of them somewhere that I can access them without having to pull the box out everytime. Preferably most of them in one room to keep them out of the wife's way.

Whetteon, how many boxes can you fit on the shelves in your closet?

GO TO A USED OFFICE SUPPLY STORE...
I USED TO GET THESE FOR BETWEEN $40-$60.00..IT JUST DEPENDS ON HOW MANY SCRATCHES ARE ON THE CABINET

And I thought, after the first few posts after mine, that my suggestion would be tossed right out the window - thanks, guys! I plan on doing this sometime soon for my collection, at least after I get a real job. (Second interview Monday morning - wish me luck!)

You can use them as furniture, just like in Paul Auster's Moon Palace.
Your couch and dining table would be two boxes high, bed and table chairs one box high 8-)

Sears, Home Depot, etc. has easy to assemble plastic shelves for around twenty to thirty bucks. They will hold 750lbs and are not space limiting as the tables.

poor me-mine are all stuck in the closet-it's a real pain. everytime i am looking for a book it seems that it is in the box on the very bottom. sometimes i consider selling off my collection simply for the needed space!

In my tiny man closet I can fit 6 half boxes per shelf. I have 3 shelfs so far and I really try to keep the numbers from getting out of control by selling some books that are less desirable instead of adding more. However my collection seems to still be growing.

The legal-size file cabinets are a great idea. I'm planning a move next year, but after I'm situated I'd like to do something like that. Until then, my comics will have to stay in their boxes.
