Any one else read this ??? So upset over this "joke" as this sort of thing puts people off picking up titles as they think its coming to an end

Well there are lies, damn lies and statistics...This guy took the last year after Shooter, the last year under Acclaim, and the first 4 months of VEI.

Of course the sales go down after the first issue...go check the new 52 or Marvel NOW! sales after isse 1, duche bag. Justice League is down almost 40% I believe. When you compare to other non-Big 2 publishers, VALIANT's numbers are higher than all but the biggest sellers (TWD, Saga, Buffy, Star Wars, etc).

Oh, and lets not forget the MILLIONS of issues of Bloodshot and Turok's first issues alone that were sold before the company was bought out in 1994. I wonder what Marvel's sales looked like that year after X-Men #1 (or any other publisher for that matter)? What a failure that company is!

And to equate Jason and Dino to two stoners is just ignorant and rediculous. These guys graduated with degrees is business and entertainment from high level universities, spent years battling lawsuits from other "stoners" who wanted these "worthless" properties, and slowly recruited investors and built a business strategy years in advance.

This guy is obviously bitter over something and has no real insight into the company. Do comic publishers start up and fail all the time? Of course. But it is due to mismanagement (Atlas, CrossGen) and market forces beyond individual's control (Everyone in the md-90s). I'm pretty sure Marvel went bankrupt at one point and DC was sold to Time Warner for Ted Turner's mustache clippings...grrr...this makes me so angry...
Edit: After reading the blurb at the bottom of the page (missed it the first time) I feel less anger toward the "duche," but I still find the infographic misleading and offensive.

You spelled *SQUEE* wrong. :P

I just skimmed over it, didn't seem a big deal, you're gonna get a lot of pros and cons to everything. I'd rather not prompt this guy's site, so that he doesn't generate income from us visiting it! The strongest defense you can have is ignoring someone, it makes them feel irrelevant! One of my all-time favorite quotes was when someone had asked Jean Chretien about some comments Howard Stern had said, his response was simple and effective: "Who's Howard Stern?".

Statistics can be used to show anything. Two people using the same statistics can use different graphs to defend their ideas. Their was no comparision to other titles. Not even a key.
Bit of a personal blow at the bottom, with the silly cartoon.
As for saying valiant is already old, I find it quite refreshingly new, to new for me as I enjoy more story ~ but the recent xo (7) was great. Felt like a good read.

This is probably a nuetral-positive.

The worst thing that can happen is that someone who wants to hate on Valiant sees this and continues to hate on Valiant. The best case is someone sees this and say, "Oh, I didn't realize Valiant is back", and checks out the comics.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.

No, but Penn State might in the long run. This is the most relevant their football program has been in over a decade.

Jean Chretien was great. I remember when Chretien and Bush were at odds, and they both went to a UN summit. When Bush was shaking hands with leaders of different countries, Chretien ignored Bush and Bush went to the next guy.

The press asked Chretien why he ignored Bush and didn't shake his hand, Chretien responded, "I do not kiss anybody."

I don't think that the article was all that negative.

Although I think that the writer is misinterpreting the numbers. I think that the high sales of the #1 issues are attributed to speculation over #1s. Nobody wants to miss the next "The Walking dead" and they buy multiple copies of a lot of #1 issues that come out. That, and there are more people who want the variants to the #1 issues so the orders are artificially high for the #1s. Add to that, the normal drop from #1 issues, to #2 issues and you get the big fall-offs that you see in the graphic.

I don't know why the author knocks Valiant for rehashing the same heroes over and over again. All publishers do that. Not everyone has the same business model as Image, and these characters failed in the past because they were poorly written. They succeeded when they were written well.

He does have a point about new characters. I would like to see VEI come up with a new character that generates some buzz in the comic community. This would do away with some of the "been there. Done that." mentality of naysayers.

The comparison to Image bugs me. Image is a publisher handling logistics for creator owned properties, Valiant is a bank of corporate owned IP. To say that the latter should borrow the business model of the former is ridiculous!

More to the point, making any long term judgements about the success of Valiant seems daft at the moment. So far they have launched 5 comics to critical acclaim and a degree of commercial (relative) success. The test will be whether they can sustunaibly build on this over the next couple of years.

The problem is VEI and its investors have invested money in the existing IPs. So while I expect old characters/teams with brand new concepts, or new concepts packaged under old names (like Secret Weapons), I do not expect new characters in new titles in the near future.
