JMS on Fantastic Four
Just read Straczynski 's first issue on the Fantastic Four. Great suff
I was really impressed by the art too (where were all these great artists in the 90's?).
If you haven't read it, you must pick it up just for the Thing/Bill Gates gag alone! I haven't laughed that hard...well, since I read this month's issue of Amazing Spiderman by Straczynski (their's a very funny scene with Wolverine and Aunt May) but it's still a great gag!

Roy Thomas is going to be writing a comic called ANTHEM:CJAotssE wrote:I do have to wonder where all the great comicbook writers are these days?
Don McGregor, Doug Moench, Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas, et al.

The last thing I remember Doug Moench writing was JLA: ACT OF GOD, but I don't know if he did anything afterwards.

I hope he doesn't pull inane crap like he did with Spidey ... "Hey lets reveal that Sue Storm actually slept with Victor Von Doom when they were 13 -- I don't have any good new ideas so let's just stomp all over the good old ones."
Spidey and FF are two of my favorite comics. FF has been in a slump so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Edit: OK I re-read your post... so which event(s) in Spidey are you referring to here?

Sue Storm is definitely doable.CJAotssE wrote:Whilst that would be coming out of left field, Reed and Victor knew each other before the flight, so something between Sue and Victor would always be a storyline that might be doable.depluto wrote: "Hey lets reveal that Sue Storm actually slept with Victor Von Doom when they were 13."

He was lampooning a storyline that JMS penned (that spun off into atleast one of the other Spidey titles) where we found out Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn had an unfortunate one night stand and that produced two babies shortly before she died (she had them when she was over in Europe right before her death). Because of Osborn's screwed up DNA they grew up super fast and, because of lies Osborn told them, tried to kill Spiderman and Peter Parker. They majorly screwed with Peter's head and put him through a real emotional and physical ordeal. It was a good story if you get past the whole Stacy/Osborn revelation late in the story (one fo the few things JMS has done in the book that I didn't like). Curiously it's one of the few stories JMS has done that was stepped in heavy past continuity.jcdenton wrote:"Hey lets reveal that Sue Storm actually slept with Victor Von Doom when they were 13"

The storyline revolves around a time when Gwen just came back from a trip to Europe (the storyline says we don't why she went there in the first place) and they're busy with Harry Osborn's drug problem. Something seems to be bothering Gwen but she says she'll talk about it later. Later, ofcourse, never comes. The whole story is Peter piecing together what Gwen's problem was (which we find out was the twins). JMS uses this secret to add an extra layer into the arguements Gwen had with Osborn and why Green Goblin chose her, out of all Peter's loved ones, to go after.CJAotssE wrote:I haven't compared what occured in ASM prior to Gwen's death to the new twins story, but I was wondering: did JMS pick up on any dialogue from the old stories that made the 'Sins Past' events inevitable? That would be good.
Never having read the original story, I don't what was their orginally and what was added (other than the obvious Stacy/Osborn fling)

Pretty good breakdown of the plot, Todd. It was executed well, but the basic premise just turned my stomach; it seemed irrelevant to these characters I'd been reading about for decades.
I considered it to be just as bad as when Mike Grell turned Tony Stark into a businessman who wanted to help down-and-out prostitutes.

Marvel is very smart in grabbing him. GREAT artist makes me happy I'm friends with him.

Why is it that you have nearly 1000 posts....yet NO avatar?Todd Luck wrote:He was lampooning a storyline that JMS penned (that spun off into atleast one of the other Spidey titles) where we found out Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn had an unfortunate one night stand and that produced two babies shortly before she died (she had them when she was over in Europe right before her death). I think JMS's run on FF is gonna be a classic one, he just has a way with multiple character storylines and good drama. One of my favorite books of the last 10 years or so was Rising Stars, and then a very similar treatment with Supreme Squadron (or was it Squadron Supreme). Hopefully his style will not begin to get boring.
I am selling "nothing" on ebay-yet.
