How many copies of the same book are you buying?

Post by ShadowTuga »

Title says all.

I'll start.
I'm getting one of both regular and pullbox variants and i'm chasing all the multiple printings. I know that are people buying 30 or more copies of the same book (rare variants chase, I bet).

Right now, I simply can't afford to pay more than 20 € for a comic that I already have, sometimes in doubles. That said, I'd love collecting them all, but I buy VALIANT for the same reason as most of you: the fantastic stories and characters. In the current economy, and coming from a country that's slowly going to be the next "Greece", paying 50 euros for a 20 page comic is still viewed as quite insane behaviour. :)

Not that i would not love to get my pawns on one... :D

I buy one of every cover from my LCS.

Sometimes, if I see a 50% off deal on DCBS like this http://www.dcbservice.com/category.aspx?id=1&pid=390843" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for $9.97 plus shipping.
I order one set.

HARBINGER (ONGOING) #6 SUAYAN CVR
X-O MANOWAR (ONGOING) #7
ARCHER & ARMSTRONG (NEW) #4 PEARSON CVR
BLOODSHOT (ONGOING) #5 LOZZI CVR
SHADOWMAN #1 ZIRCHER CVR

Its hard to beat five books for $9.97 plus shipping.

I buy one of every cover at my LCS and then I have bought several of the deals off of Paradise.

I have been buying four of each regular issue (one from two LCS's) and two from dcbservice. I only buy one of the incentive variant covers unless I can find them cheap.

I decided this week to only buy two of each reg cover as the cost is becoming too much.
Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

I've been buying 3 of each first issue and 2 of every issue after that but it is getting very expensive very quickly. I think I'm going to have to drop back to 1 issue very soon.

I've been *trying* to get one copy of every cover of each title so far if I really like it, OR if I catch a variant on sale for a good price.

[Deals so far; I got the XO #1 Aja for $7.50, XO #2 Lozzi for $10, XO 4 Kramer for $10, Harbinger 2 Braithwaite for $10, A&A #2 Zircher $12.50, & Bloodshot 2 Brase for $10]

I am not interested in buying 2nd/3rd/4th printings unless they are new covers & I like them. Also not going for the limited, double-sided blank sketch covers.

Of all the unique variants to date, I am currently missing a Harbinger #1 QR, the Bloodshot #1 Ribic, the A&A #1 Adams, the A&A #1 2nd print Henry, the XO #5 Zircher Ninjak cover & for some reason my shop didn't get any of the Harbinger #4 Braithwaite. Not sure if I'll pursue getting the 1:50's aggressively... I saw a Bloodshot #1 Ribic at a Con for $30 and I passed on it at the time [but I'm kicking myself for it].

I've also already committed to ordering all 4 covers for Shadowman #1 when that comes along.

*oh, and I did get a Gold XO #1 for free :D

I've been buying two each on the regular priced issued, but I'll probably start cutting that back to one in the coming months. I haven't been picking up many variants other than the pullbox and a few others, but I only get one each of those.

I list what I buy in the online collection. Roughly 10-50 of each issue depending on how much I like it.

Generally speaking I am buying 1 copy of each issue, although I have been buying variants in addition to the normal comics (mainly the #1's).

I've cut down. I now only get 1 of each regular issues/2nd, 3rd printings (unless I love the cover then I'll get 2-3), and only the 1:20/25s if I can find under $15 shipped, but honestly, I'm not really aggressively pursuing them anymore. For the 1:20s I have: Harby #1(8); XO #1(3), #2(2), #3(1); A&A #1(1), and Bloodshot #2(1). I most likely will get the 1:20 #1 for Shadowman when it comes out but I'm most excited about the Blackout Pullbox cover.

I feel that the 2nd, 3rd printings have the most upside...low print numbers at cover price.

I usually only buy one copy of most Valiant's, but have multiples of the #1's first and 2nd prints. I have a few Variants, but not that many, certainly not a complete set.

I only buy the regular and pullbox (if available). The only reason I get both is because they are both in my box when I go to get my comics. If not for that, I would only buy the pullbox when it was available.

I'm trying to get 1 each of each title, print and variant at the moment. I've never gone for variants and the like in my comic collecting before, but like the idea that I can be getting in on something from the start and keeping pace to build a complete collection.

Out of interest, what is the motivation for buying multiple copies of the same book/print/cover? I assume some of this is for resale purposes. Do you really expect there to be sustained demand to justify 50+ purchases?

With the Paradise deals, I'd been getting 10 of every #1 plus variants. I've backed off a bit but when I'm in the LCS I find myself buying additional copies of the #2's, second prints, etc.

I don't buy any other comics so it's not too much of a budget strain. A having started reading VH1 just after Unity, I'm always kicking myself that I didn't find it sooner and get everything before prices on those back issues climbed dramatically.

None of it is for resale, just collector-itis I guess.

I buy at least 7 of each issue. I have all the variants, except for the black preview. On some issues I order more, like X-O
#5 I didn't feel like messing with anything so I pre- ordered 100 to get all the variants. I figured what the heck. I don't know how much longer I may continue on this because I am not a dealer and don't sell my stuff, so space is becoming a a issue..lol.

Out of the regular and pullbox covers I buy 3. One to read and one of each cover to keep in nice condition.

But, I have like 25 copies of Bloodshot#2 and 30 of A&A#1 because I really wanted the A&A 1:100, which was finally delivered to my LCS on Friday (9/14/2012) :?

Not to be lame sauce here, but I've always just bought a book because of the story. The idea of collecting covers is a new one for me. That said, Valiant is not making it easy. There are some really great covers - the art has been outstanding. I still only buy one book and hope that what's in my pullbox is the cover I want - the LCS will work with me. However, if I could afford it, there are other covers I'd like to have.

In reality, if I really love the cover, I'd prefer having the original art to hang on my wall. Same goes with interior pages. Everything else is just a print, but yeah, I'd enjoy having the other covers to look at. In the meantime, the interweb makes it easy for me to gaze fondly upon covers I don't have but enjoy. I went thru an OCD collecting thing with Star Wars toys, so I'm trying to keep future collections pared down.

I buy one copy of every comic I buy and publisher should be grateful I do that.

I don't buy multiple copies with varient covers because they suck and they're a waste of my money, time, and trees.

I started out buying 2 of each issue, but that finally had to end and I sold off my duplicates. Now I buy 1 of everything, if I can afford it, but I'm not gonna cry if I miss out on a variant or have to wait a while. There have been, and are going to be, some really cool covers.
This post has been carefully constructed so as to add absolutely nothing to any discussion or topic.

I'm still on pace to buy one of each cover, EXCLUDING Golds. Golds are just crazy. :P At least with a variant, there's either different artwork, or only the artwork. I don't care if the title is just a different colour. I get the tradition of Golds for valiant, but they're just boring for me.

I bought two copies of each of the two variants for the first issues. I then gave up the variants and went down to one copy of each book, as it is all the budget allows.
