Long time comic book reader, new Valiant fan
Good morning,
My name is Matthew and I am a longtime comic book reader going back to the early eighties, a comic book decade I enjoyed so much I publish a podcast about it! I remember Valiant from the nineties but I never read any of their comic books, at the time time they were part of the "variants/special covers/gimmicks/comics as investments" scene that I did not like. So when I heard that the universe was going to relaunch I was not very interested or excited, I just added them to the list that includes Atlas, Gold Key and others that were attempting to bring back dead universes.
It was only in reviewing comic books for First Comics News that I started to see copies of the Valiant relaunch and even then I did not bother to read any for review until Harbinger #3. Since then I have gone back and read all the issues of the relaunch and reviewed the newest issues at they come out and I have really enjoyed them. So much that I am posting on a Valiant fan site, lol.
Some of the Valiant reviews I have posted were for (in order of review publication):
Harbinger #3
9 out of 10
9 Word Summary: A blistering start to the relaunched series and universe!
Bloodshot #2
9 out of 10
9 Word Summary: One of the very best comics of the year!
Archer & Armstrong #1
8 out of 10
8 Word Summary: Another great first issue series reboot from Valiant
Bloodshot #3
9 out of 10
9 Word Summary: Continues to be one of the best comics today!
Harbinger #4
9 out of 10
9 Word Summary: You must read this series as soon as possible!
X-O Manowar #5
9 out of 10
9 Word Summary: Amazing story with awesome artwork – go buy it today!
So, I guess you can say I am enjoying the relaunch. Perhaps the best praise I can give the line is that even though I get comp'd digital review copies I have started to pick up the issues at my local comic shop for my collection. That's right, I buy comics after I have read and reviewed them!
I have even started to pick up issues of the original series, right now I have Bloodshot #0 and #1, and are enjoying those as well.
I will be covering New York Comic Con for First Comics News and I have a hotel in Times Square so if any Valiant fans want to get together for drinks after the show closes on Friday night, let me know. If you are a long time fan I would like to write an article on your thoughts about the relaunch and why you are a Valiant fan.
Thanks for reading this rather long post and enjoy the new Valiant comics this week, I know that I did!

Welcome, Matt. Glad to hear you are enjoying the new VU. I would highly recommend checking out the original VU as well (especially the pre unity books).

It's these damn memory implants. I can't ever remember if my name is John or Matt. That's what I get for ordering cheap Japanese implants from Project Rising Spirit. Sure, I saved a few bucks but now my brain is crawling with half a dozen false lifetimes.FormerReader wrote:jmatt wrote:Oh good.
