i'm surprised more people didn't mention yvel. i really like his stuff. lapham's too.
i like bws on a & a the most, and think they should've cancelled the book the DAY he stopped doing it. his work on x-o was great too, and the guy that replaced him was too far from his style to make the jump-do you know what i mean? if not reread your retribution tpb and check out how drastic the change is...it bugs me.
now for the "weird" thing. i did not like bws work on solar that much. too many characters and they all look the same to me. i know that most people will disagree with me-that's why i mentioned liking a&a and x-o first!!!

I think Perlin actually upped the quality of his work significantly while working for Valiant. Compare his Valiant stuff with some of his Marvel Werewolf By Night art, it's like night and day (no pun intended)Jaknife wrote: perlin? i like his work, but it seemed to average for me.
I like BWS (of course) Layton, Quesada (mostly covers) and Lapham's stuff too

Hey folks, I new to the board but I've been a Valiant reader from the beginning! My favorite artist are:
1 BWS
2 Michelinie
3 Lapham
4 Chen
4.5 Joe Que
5 Leeke
I miss the old days! Just looking over this web site brought back some very good memories of this wonderful company. There has not been nothing close to the beginning of Valiant. I wish I was rich so I could buy the rights to the characters and hire Shooter to continue the legacy! Maybe one day!

Michelinie
Nobody going to comment that Michelinie only wrote and doesn't draw comics?

Favorites...
I'm not allowed to be biased.
But if I were, I'd say BWS, Layton, Quesada, Hitch, Chen and Chang, Sears with Elliott
Bob Hall--favorite Writer/Artist
Most consistent--Don Perlin and Peter Grau
Sexiest gals--Vosburg
Best Raw Talent that just grew with every assignment--Yvel Guichet
Most improved--Jim Calafiore. Great storytelling and action figures

Of the Post-Unity artists Yvel Guichet has to be the top of my list. I love the cover of Eternal Warrior #4. Anyone know if any of his art is available? Dave Ross on RAI was good too. I love his props to the first issues on the cover of #24. I'd be interested in his art if it's out there. I always liked the detail of Quesada, but he took so long to get the issues out. It always felt like he was just along for the ride. He did his stint with the hot publisher of the day and moved on. He was only on Ninjak for what like 4 issues? He did a few 0 issues and covers and moved to Marvel. The Bart Sears XO was cool too. XO #14 cover has to be one of my favorites.
Pre-Unity I'd have to go with Lapham and BWS. I've always been a fan of Harbinger early art. I think it's a combination of the great story working with the art. Jim Lee or McFarlane wouldn't have worked with the first 7 issues of Harbinger.

no, but sometimes it seems that way, like with chen, chang, sears(for sure), and various others. there are artists who do distinguish between gender well. i liked sears earlier turok/xo works. he draws excellent muscles, and it is good to look at them if you are trying to learn to draw well. the problem with the later issues was that he went nuts with the muscles. like, if he had any tendencies with the body, they came out. the cleft chin, the huge thighs, flat noses, large tracts of land on women, etc.
BWS has most definitley grown on me since i began reading A and A. oh yeah, i am happy to announce that i have succesfully completed my first whole run, specials and all. I now have all Archer and Armstrong issues...yay.
Lapham has started looking better as well since i got some earlier Harbinger issues. anybody think that sean chens work on harbinger wasnt as good as his work on bloodshot? everybody seemed to look the same, with that super round upper lip. it just seemed the later issues of bloodshot had so much more detail.

Sean said that he was trying to make Bloodshot look more like an Image-style character. I'd say he succeeded (and he'd say he succeeded a little too well).Jaknife wrote:anybody think that sean chens work on harbinger wasnt as good as his work on bloodshot? everybody seemed to look the same, with that super round upper lip. it just seemed the later issues of bloodshot had so much more detail.

Check out my interview with him at my Bloodshot site (click on the button below). And Mrs. Chen has a site devoted to her son's work at:
