Are promo pieces under valued???
It seems like the promo posters and stand ups would go for a lot more than they do due to the limited supply. There must be less of these than the rarest valiant. Does anyone else think so?
Anyone know how many of the various promos there were? What about the stand ups? I know that I would pay to have one of the armorines or visitor standees.
I DO have a few of the promos hanging up in frames and love them!!!! Especially the Unity promo poster. Does anyone else display their stuff or am I the only fanboy?

Good question. I know one of my favorite Valiant items is a display box that was originally used to display the new issues in the comic shop. It's black, and says "VALIANT" and has the red and white Valiant V-Star logo on the front, and big logo's on the sides. It has two levels, so the books in the back tier stick up a little higher than those in the front. It's divided down the center also, making four storage areas - two lower and two upper. It has an attachment that fits into the top, it folds in half to give two different displays....one say Chaos Effect and has the fractal image, and the other has the V-Star logo and says NEW RELEASES. I've never seen another one like it on any site, or on Ebay. My wife got it from a mall store, (a gaming store I think...she doesn't remember), they were throwing it out and she knew I was into Valiants so she asked if she could have it and they gave it to her. I use it to this day to hold my recent comic purchases until they get read and boxed. I know it must be a very rare item. Anybody else out there have one?

I know what you're saying, Gray...I've often wondered about comics promo pieces myself, but I don't think anyone's gone to the effort of finding out what exists, and in what quantities, and compiling it into one piece of data. Since most of these items are thrown away after their particular promotion is over, how does one even start cataloguing what's out there?
I've got some killer Dark Knight Returns counter standees, and one of my pride and joys, a Dark Knight Returns poster, as well as a Batman: The Cult poster by wrightson, and some Death in the Family cards (gosh, you can't tell what *I* collect, can ya?
)...I have no idea what, if anything, they're worth....but I do know, as a rabid Bats fan, that I picked them up, so I can't be the only one who likes them....and some of this stuff, like the Dark Knight pieces, are nearly 20 years old, and date from the very earliest promo pieces in comics. They didn't do much with promos before the advent of the direct market, right?

I have a ton of the posters, but nothing cardboard and none of the birthquake stuff. I got my wife to designate one room where I could display my stuff and 3 of the walls are covered in valiant art and promo posters. I would LOVE to have one of the standees. They should have made one for XO. That would have been a very cool item.
One possible way to guesstimate how many of the promos there are, ould be o find out how many comics stores there were back in the 90's. I know that would be a way off number, but at least we could know what the maximum number probably is. Anyone know any sites that list that kind of data?

While most promo items are rare, there just is not enough people collecting the stuff for it to see much of a price increase. I would say it is less than 1 out of a 100 comic fans that would even care about a promo item. I do think a few are under valued. Like the beer, viewers, & canteen set. But stand ups, displays, posters etc are produced by just about every company, so I don't feel they are as collectable.
