Defiant - where to begin?
Afternoon all
I've been thinking of reading some Defiant books but I'm not sure where to jump in - is there a particular title which ties the universe together or should I just pick a title and get stuck in?
Your views are most welcome....
Cheers

Re: Defiant - where to begin?
There are only what, about 36 issues in the whole Defiant set? I don't remember any one series binding the whole set together. They were going to have a Unity-style crossover that sounds very interesting called Schism but the whole company folded after only two tie-ins were published. The bad guys were going to win and the good guys were going to have to start an underground resistance.
Re: Defiant - where to begin?
Can't go wrong with Warriors of Plasm, as well as the Origin of the Defiant Universe one-shot. You should be able to find them cheap at your LCS or eBay or even Mile High Comics

Re: Defiant - where to begin?
Last time I visited, shooters work.com had the order of release for this line. That would be cool to do it that way.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.

There are 58 Defiant issues (+ a Dark Domain #0 that was only cards) and you can start off with Warriors of Plasm. Most of them are stand alone except for Dogs of War and Prudence & Caution that spun off Warriors of Plasm. There are also two one-shots that spun off Warriors of Plasm (Great Grimmax and Splatterball).

I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.

Re: Defiant - where to begin?
You should start with Dark Dominion and end with Dark Dominion
Loved that book! Didn't care much for the rest

Dark Dominion is my favorite too. Took me awhile to find the cards for the #0 issue though. I think I'm only missing one.Crow331 wrote:You should start with Dark Dominion and end with Dark DominionLoved that book! Didn't care much for the rest

Re: Defiant - where to begin?
Dark Dominion was fantastic - had a great, old-school Dr. Strange vibe to it. Anyone who likes Shadowman should check out this book. I enjoyed DD + Good Guys and Warriors of Plasm to a much lesser degree.

Re: Defiant - where to begin?
I loved the Defiant titles. I started collect them when they first came out and was very disappointed that we never saw the completion of Schism. Warriors of Plasm was one of my favorites when it was coming out and Dark Dominion was great as well. The is message board - http://defiant1.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; used to have some great info on Defiant and where the stories were going. (It probably still does, I just haven't been on it in a long time). They had some unfinished pages and text for future issues and rumors of what was to happen. Shooter was working on some really great plot lines that unfortunately never saw print. The guy that set up the message board also has the following site - http://www.angelfire.com/comics/defiant ... Index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Sorry if this is redundant info that has been posted elsewhere.
I might have said this before but I saw some parallels between the Vine and Plasm, specifically when Aric was their slave on the ship. Also, I think Brandon Graham's Prophet has had some interesting parallels to Warriors of Plasm. It was a really unique concept.

I should track down more of them - I only have the first 4 issues. It was my favourite of the Defiant stuff too.Newton wrote:Dark Dominion was fantastic - had a great, old-school Dr. Strange vibe to it. Anyone who likes Shadowman should check out this book.
