If I like it, I'll buy it which is the same approach I took on the New 52. I'm not currently buying any of the books that they are relaunching so that number could only go up.
The mindless idiots are the ones who don't realize that they have a choice whether to buy or not.
The numbering doesn't matter. I read comics for the stories, not the number on the cover. If the number on the cover affects your enjoyment of what you read inside, I'd recommend getting checked for adult ADD.

Wow! I think numbering does make a huge difference especially when it comes to continuity. How many origin stories get told and retold and added with more updates to milk sales. Wolverine is a classic example. Its not right that they screw with readers/fans. If Marvel had stones do what DC did by starting fresh. The hulk, x-men and other books just got relaunched and now they are getting all new teams blah blah blah.....I hope I am wrong about marvel now... I don't think this is going to last.400yrs wrote:grendeljd wrote:*edit* - I removed most of this post because i recalled that i already sounded off in this thread. Yeah, it won't. It's comics. They'll come up with some other gimmick in a few years.
I don't read any X-Men stuff nor Wolverine because there's too much of it and it's not the kind of stories I like anyway.
I read Daredevil though and I didn't at all mind when they renumbered things twice. Same with ASM. Yeah, starting with a new #1 in the middle of a 400 issue run was strange, but it didn't affect my enjoyment (or lack thereof) of the stories inside.

Re: Marvel Now
So DC and Marvel can't keep their series' with just good stories, good writing, and good art, hmmm? Sounds like the fall of the Roman comics empire. Blood in the water for an up and coming Valiant whose focus is on those things and who I don't see having any need or want to cancel and restart series all over the place any time soon.

^ I would not begrudge Marvel and DC for those gimmicks. In a medium that is slowly shrinking into a niche market over the past decade, you really need all these marketing stunts to be viable.

An article related to the whole re-numbering thing, at Marvel in particular;
BREVOORT, WAID TALK “HULK,” “MARVEL NOW” AND RENUMBERING
I love that they can't even say at this point that they'll stick to the Marvel Now 'reboot' in a couple years time.

The thing that makes me most nervous in that article isn't even related to Marvel Now, but the offhand comment about Amazing Spider-man #700 and how it's going to change everything. I may have finally found my dropping off point if they try to pull another BND.grendeljd wrote:An article related to the whole re-numbering thing, at Marvel in particular;

My problem isn't all the restarting over from #1. It's the constant return to the orginal numbering which I think is Marvel's real problem. How can I be assure that a book like The Fanastic Four for example, won't be reverted back to the next big celebration issue like #650 and continue on from #651 and so on?
That is what drives me nuts.
I wish Marvel would stop doing that crap that is why I currently only buy 2 titles from them X-Factor and Captain Marvel because their numbers make sense (yes, I know Marvel reverted the numbering on X-Factor but it's nowhere near as bad as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Fantasic Four, Wolverine, Deadpool, Daredevil and every other major title).
I might have ordered the Marvel Now The Fanastic Four #1 (and maybe even FF #1) but they have no longer have my trust that they won't revert the numbering around and that turns me off from a lot of Marvel Comics is that they can't count. Call me old fashioned but I like a simple numbering system not the huge mess that Marvel has made of theirs.
At least with Batwoman all I have to currently put up with is two different zero issues which is stupid IMHO but that is DC for you (and granted before the New 52 DC did that crap on Wonder Woman and Adventure Comics but at least to my knowledge they were the only 2 titles DC did that to).

Amazing Spider-Man is ending with #700, so there should be a new number 1.

Re: Marvel Now
Given the way comics currently work, I can't imagine publishers for the most part wouldn't renumber every 3-5 years, even though I think you get diminishing returns on it. We'll see how long DC's numbers stay high on the New 52 stuff. Marvel has been pretty slipshod before now about renumbering things, NOW! to me at least looks like a strategy. I'm not big on ASM losing its numbering, but then it's possible that I am a geek and no regular reader cares about these things. I certainly don't care about the production number on what episode of "Castle" I'm watching, so, we shall see.

I don't mind it. They will go back to the original numbering at some point on ASM. I just hope that Slott keeps writing it. His stuff has been awesome!

I haven't read multiple Marvel titles on a regular basis in years. The Marvel universe is my first comic book love, and I've picked the following titles I'm planning to read. Maybe I'll add another one or two. I'm very excited about this!
Amazing Spider-Man
All-New X-Men
Indestructible Hulk
Captain America
Iron Man
Uncanny Avengers

Amazing Spider-Man
Even if Brand New Day is undone and the marriage restored I'm not interested in Spider-Man anymore.
All-New X-Men
The past versions of the original X-Men meet their present day counter-parts. If I was a teenager I might be more into the X-Books but I'm not.
Indestructible Hulk
Other than Uncanny Avengers it seems to be the only Marvel NOW title that looks like it's actually trying a brand new direction. I like the creative team so I'll give it a chance.
Captain America
Captain America gets stranded in alternate universe and has too fight his way home for an opening arc, but if that is the direction this series is going in the long haul, then I'll pass. This is the kind of storyline I would rather read as TPB.
Iron Man
Iron Man: Extremis was a brilliant story by Warren Ellis, and if Ellis was involved in this series I might buy it, but he's not and I find the idea of Iron man fighting a bunch of Extremis cells boring.
Uncanny Avengers
John Cassiday is the ONLY reason I'm buying this book.
Know this: I would rather be hated for being honest for my opinions, than being loved as a liar!
Re: Marvel Now
I think there are at least several of these titles that will be going in new directions. Captain America and Hulk seem radically different. Gilleran and Land is a great team to explore Extremis, too.
Here's the cover to Captain America 2.

Re: Marvel Now
Here are my comments to go along with the six titles I definately want to read beginning with Marvel Now!
Amazing Spider-Man- Great jumping on point, after whatever the astounding events of issue 700 are.
All-New X-Men- I love the original X-Men team, and am hoping Bendis can capture the spirit of Ultimate Spider-Man in this series.
Captain America- I've never read a Remender book on an ongoing basis. Seems like a good time to give it a try.
Indestructible Hulk- Waid on Hulk. 'Nuff said!
Iron Man- Haven't read a Gilleran book regularly either. I read Extremis, which is what will be explored early on in this title. Plus, Greg Land is on the art.
Uncanny Avengers- Another Remender book. This title will definately be key in the Marvel Universe.

The Hickman books will likely be good and well-liked by most, but nothing he has ever written has really stuck with me. Remender is not an A list writer, IMO. JRJr is not a very good artist. Cassaday isn't much better. Greg Land? He is about as good as Larry Stroman. Mike Allred on FF? Has any of his super hero stuff taken? The creators on All New X-Men are interesting, but they've redone the first X-Men team that the concept is too thin for me.
The one book that I was really interested in was the Thor: God of Thunder book by Jason Aaron, but IMO, that Esad Ribic cover is so terrible, I can't buy the book. I may check out Deadpool to see how Moore draws it. Other than that, ASM (if they do something with it) is the only book I'll be buying.
In general, I doubt these books will have the impact that the New 52 had and I use to be a Marvel zombie.
