Kind of underwhelming considering the fully colored pages with dialog have been released online...sonicdan wrote:http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/09/03/ ... ant-black/
That being said, I totally want one!

Hopefully I can talk my retailer into letting go of his.

Smart guy. Hit the nail on the head.paradise wrote:I have no knowledge of this at all, but with retailers doing net Previews orders very soon, and Shadowman being in it, and it having a black cover, it seems pretty easy to guess what that may be. Or it could be something totally different.

So, is EVERY retailer getting one? If not, how do they qualify?

I really hope my lcs is getting one, based on that tweet I can't be sure. I know I have been helping to keep orders decent by ordering most of the variants so far... I think they've carried 20-40 copies of nearly every issue to date. Hope that's enough... because i want that!

Re: So what is it???
hehe - my wife and I have gotten a lot of mileage out of that line too!
I think there's only 6 of us at my LCS pulling in Valiant, so I'm fairly certain I won't have easy access to a copy!

Re: So what is it???
For me also, it is my orders that would notice at me LCS. And I know that is not enough. To make things worse Diamond has been shorting their/my orders. The Archer and Armstrongs I ordered have not arrived yet. Maybe next week I will get some of them (and no variant).betterthanezra wrote:I hope my retailer is one of those...

Re: So what is it???
I just had a look at my lcs's expected shipment for this week, and there it was - Valiant Black.
I called to see if they were getting a bunch, if it was a freebie or not, and they actually didn't even know what it was,
... but they had a letter in their invoice stating that it would be shipping next week instead of this week... so I should hopefully be getting one put aside at least
They *did* finally get their A&A #1 1:100, but still no sign of the A&A #1 2nd print...

Re: So what is it???
I have to imagine that if VEI put this on the shelf for anyone to pick up, casual buyers would be enticed, interested in something they aren't already buying.
I see the point that VEI is trying to give incentives to Retailers, so this is their "Thank you" but it seems to be going to the retailers who are already buying their stuff.
Shooter did his best to make these cool incentives available to the readers. IMO, this is where VEI, so far, is missing the mark.
I was re-reading Solar and read Jims response to X-Men #1 selling a bajillioin copies by flooding the market with multiple prints of the same book with different covers to artificially boost their sales...

What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

Isn't VEI already winning over a lot of fans with their Gold promos on twitter and Fan Art Fridays? So far, this is the only retailer only incentive that I have seen, and you already consider it as VEI missing the mark?Zaphod wrote:I have to imagine that if VEI put this on the shelf for anyone to pick up, casual buyers would be enticed, interested in something they aren't already buying.

Re: So what is it???
Being a recipient of lots of free swag from VEI, I have to admit, that helps in me buying every issue so far (I probably would regardless) I don't see the other companies doing jack squat, all they do is keep rebooting the same old crap over and over and regurgitating old stale ideas.erwinrafael wrote:Isn't VEI already winning over a lot of fans with their Gold promos on twitter and Fan Art Fridays? those are all "promo's" that are pandering to the same audience. What about the casual reader, what is their impact towards new readers with these promo's? I'd say very negligible.

Taking care of the core audience is a good strategy before expanding to new readership. They have to secure their niche audience.Zaphod wrote:those are all "promo's" that are pandering to the same audience. I am also pretty sure that the 20K-ish numbers being sold by Valiant for their titles is not composed only of hardcore Valiants. I know a couple of people who are non-Valiant readers who picked up the books. The true test of their marketing to "new" readers is how they would market their trades, which are the most accessible avenues for new readers to jump in. The individual issues, in my opinion, are really for the hardcore fans who are willing to wait out the one month in between issues.
