I started reading The Unwritten vol 1. I read the first issue back when it came out and dismissed it because it's an obvious knock on Harry Potter. I've let myself get past that and I've enjoyed the first two issues thus far.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Mind the Gap #1. Unfortunately, I had to read this in two different sittings. I'll probably read it again on the weekend. It's a big fat comic for $2.99. Lots of story in this murder mystery mag.
The art by Esquejo is excellent. The story is interesting, but it will take another read and probably a few more issues to decide if I will stick with this. Story - 4/5, art 5/5.
I really enjoyed the previews for this. Usually when that happens, I love the book. The rest of the book didn't add too, too much to the previews though.

Epic Kill. Art 5/5, story 2/5. Turn off your brain and grab some popcorn to read this and it's fun. Great art though.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I finally started sorting the last 5 years of my collection last night, a process that will take me months btw. No true comic fan can sort comics without reading one or two, so I pulled Ultimate Hulk Annual #1 out. This is one of the most pathetic excuses for a comic I have ever read and I am quite sure that I have been to some extent irrevocably brain damaged as a result of reading it.
Spoilers:
Zarda (Asgardian goddess I believe?) is new to Earth and Captain America is trying to help learn American culture and societal norms and it's not going well. Zarda just wants to kill everyone she fights. Captain America sends her on a cross-country trip to learn more on her own and makes her promise not to kill anyone. Zarda is sitting in a diner eating and a naked Hulk walks in demanding waffles and the hostess is refusing him service. Zarda beats the sh!t out of the Hulk demanding that he put pants on. Zarda drags Hulk's unconscious body to a big and tall clothing store, buys him pants, and drags him back to the diner. Art shows Zarda and Hulk eating breakfast in the diner and the next page clearly shows without showing that Zarda and the Hulk are having sex.
I told my wife the same summary as above and how upset I was that this is what some comics have come to and she asked me who wrote it. I checked the credits and realized I could have saved myself a lot of disappointment and some time. Jeph Loeb.

I hate that Tim Sale works with Loeb so often. I love Sale's art, but usually can't stand reading the books.

I LOVE the work of Tim Sale, but the writer he works with most often is Loeb. And I swore off anything written by Loeb years ago.
Favorite books: Black Hammer, Bloodshot, Divinity, Justice League Dark, Marvel Two-In-One, Thor.

Zarda is the Wonder Woman analogue on the Supreme Power/Squadron Supreme world. She ended up in the Ultimate universe due to the Ultimate Power crossover.geocarr wrote:Zarda (Asgardian goddess I believe?) is new to Earth

Loeb is the reason Heroes died the death it did. In exactly 45 minutes of being the new co-runner (replacing Fuller), he undid damn near everything that was good about the first season and then kept taking explosive dumps on top of it.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
TGFCO-the worst story in the history of the series-was part of about a year where the series went off the rails a bit, following the end of The War with The Adversary. Witches is where it picked up again and, imo, has been building steam again ever since.myron wrote:still working on rereading and reading Fables TPB's...rereading up throught he great fables crossover and just picked up the Fables: Witches TPB...damn this series is good...even TGFCO is better than the majority of the other dreck out there...

Animal Man & Swamp Thing from this week.
Both books are continually awesome and although maybe getting a little overlooked by Valiant and the summer events starting for DC and Marvel but these are consistently the best books in the new 52.
Also the 1st page of Animal Man is awesome. The second nod to Grant Morrison's seminal run.

Yeah I just hope it isn't a full on crossover with JL Dark. I tried the first couple of issues but they just didn't quite work for me.MarrowMan wrote:I agree with the Animal Man kudos! I'm loving it.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Lemire said via Twitter the other day that is only a Constantine appearance, not a full fledged crossover (I'm sure he's getting that question a lot since he is taking over JL Dark now).ian_house wrote:Yeah I just hope it isn't a full on crossover with JL Dark. Read Killing Joke today. No more perfect comic has been written and drawn. Ever.
Not a Batman or DC fan, either.

In a metaphysical sense it probably did for Morrison. Have you read SuperGods?Brother Darque wrote:i bet if you asked Grant Morrison about it he'll tell you that actually happened to him.ian_house wrote:Animal Man & Swamp Thing from this week.

Unless you absolutely hate Morrison then I'd say give it a shot. Theres some excellent stuff in there (and some bizarre theories about life and the universe). But the comics analysis of the different eras and his own work are well worth the effort.Brother Darque wrote:no i haven't.ian_house wrote:In a metaphysical sense it probably did for Morrison. Re: What comics are you reading now?
I read the DC comics 4-issue limited series, Triumph, written by Christopher Priest, that told a story that reminded me of Bloodshot, in that, the hero is the son of a street criminal. It's not a bad story but I think Priest has written much better stories. Priest tries to throw quite a few twist and turns and it's as much a mystery and figure-it-out story as it is a super hero action story. It also reads as too compressed and missing the development of Triumph's support characters (members of his team). I don't feel like I wasted my time but I won't re-read it. It could have been alot better than it was and I wonder if that was Priest or DC and the editors.
