Are you gonna list all the commons that don't sell as well, or just the select sample that meets your argument? Why don't you start and try and sell that PGX book for a profit...Aram wrote:Recent ebay sales;
Harbinger 15 sells for 51.95 shipped. 8/20
Secret weapons 11 9.2 sells for 13.25 shipped 8/20
Shadowman 16 9.8 sells for 52.00 shipped 8/14
Archer and Armstrong 8 9.8 sells for 47.00 shipped 8/14
Ninjak 1 9.8 sells for 24.99 + shipping 8/12
Shadowman 8 9.8 sells for 77.00 shipped 8/11
Shadowman 13 9.8 sells for 30.00 shipped 4/14
Again, I submit that it is the price of shipping and the greedy high prices asked by sellers on ebay that prevent commons from selling on the market. Not demand.

There are almost no commons ending during that entire month period for a Low price. People do not generally offer them for reasonable amounts, which is why they don't sell.GGSAE wrote:Are you gonna list all the commons that don't sell as well, or just the select sample that meets your argument? You know why else I wouldn't point them out? Because I'm planning on buying them as I'm able to.

What's with you and the PGX? Have I mentioned PGX at all as anything worth anything? No. Or are you just bad mouthing it and drooling to try to get your hands on it for cheap?

And by the way, I know it's considered worthless to most people and it's not a 9.2 it's a 9.0. I bought it because it looked pretty darn authentic to me and for $20 it was worth the chance that it was a fake and I understood I'd likely not be able to sell it for anything even if I wanted to. I would normally not buy a PGX or a non cgc signature/sketch. But I'd probably trust a PGX SS before I'd trust a loose comic shop COA.
I'm not a Dealer like certain people here who only make purchases if they think they can flip them. I try to only make purchases that I believe I will not want to get rid of.
Now if you'll excuse me I would like to review the 11 CGC 9.8 commons that I just purchased while I was writing this post for approximately $4-6 more than it would have cost me to obtain and have had my own copies graded.

I could have saved 4-6$ per comic over what the comics would cost me now, but it might have taken me 3 months to a year to find all the exact ones I purchased in high enough grades to ensure minimum 9.6s/9.8s and get them graded.
As you say, time = money. Convenience = money as well.
I would gladly pay $4-$6 more of my money per issue to save that much of my time and get 9.8's. Since the others I would like do not exist or are not on the market yet, I can now focus on the few exact issues I need and only search for those in 9.8 raw condition.
Bearing in mind that there are at minimum over 100 more "Common" issues that I would like for my collection in 9.8's if possible, that is a lot of time for me as one person to track raws of those issues down and a lot more time for me to wait to receive them once I submit them to cgc. If someone comes up with a bunch of those issues for a reasonable price on ebay and/or as a lot or with combined shipping and I have cash available, I'm gonna jump on it in order to save myself time and possibly money in the long run.
Hell there are another 100 commons on top of those that I would pick up in lower grades for the right price just to have a slabbed copy. If someone had got commons graded back when Grading was cheaper they could have done it for $15 per issue. I would pay $20-25 average for any 9.6 or better vh1 comic as a run or set.
If CGC prices rise again in the next 5 years as I'm sure they will with inflation... then it would pay off again for anyone who grades now, since they could sell it for cheaper than what it would cost people to grade at even if they had perfect raws.
Most savings accounts and CDs are at less than 2% right now. Even if it took you 5 years to sell a common if could still average out to a minimum 5% interest earned per year.

Re: Valiant Comics Price Report- Discuss/Document Valiant Pr
Since that would include you buying multiple copies to determine 9.8 candidates and pay for multiple gradings from CGC because you, more than likely on most, can not view before purchasing and the fact that even if you could, YOU can't say 100% that it's a 9.8 because you are NOT CGC proves my point exactlyAram wrote:I don't see how that proves GGSAE's point.caniac wrote:Are you trying to prove GGSAE's pointAram wrote:

Since CGC 9.8 X-O #1 3rd print sold for $110+ shipped:

It seems like CGC 9.8 Bloodshot #1 Aja 1:20 is a bargain at $99.95 shipped:

(Disclaimer: I'm not the seller, and if I didn't already have one, I'd buy the Aja.)

I really didn't like the miswrap on that book, or it would have gone for more. I'm still glad to see one appear because I'm thinking there aren't many out there that aren't trashed. Gives me hope of finding one.greg wrote:Since CGC 9.8 X-O #1 3rd print sold for $110+ shipped:

Ha. The debate won't be over until there are comics on the market. Then the debate will be over because there will be proof one way or another.caniac wrote:This debate is over...move along people.
I say there will be very strong potential for "a small profit" in grading 9.8 candidate commons until there are at least 4-5 graded copies of every Valiant title in any grade. At that point I think it would begin to be much harder to make a profit, unless VH1 common raws took an upswing in price.

Re: Valiant Comics Price Report- Discuss/Document Valiant Pr
I had my eyes on the 3rd print. It would be very difficult to find another 9.8 candidate with more than a few hundred copies I saw would not make even a 9.6 on their best day. The coverstock on this book makes it hard to find a good 9.8 candidate. I think the 2nd print will more chances of a 9.8 than the 3rd print.

Fine. So then, there is also tons of potential for time wasted for a handful of dollars. What is the point of that unless you have unlimited time and funds? And if you did, you'd be stupid not to invest your time and money on something that could get you more than a small chance at a couple of dollars.Aram wrote: I say there will be very strong potential for "a small profit" in grading 9.8 candidate commons
I'm done with this as well. Until you put your money where your mouth is and start getting these commons slabbed and try to flip them.

I check in on this thread every now and then to see what is up, but am I one of the only ones who is not even bothering to look for Valiants right now? Seems like the hype level is a bit too high and dragging the prices with it.
Won't all this dust settle and drop back down a bit in a year or two? Or is everyone counting on some kind of movie/TV series to send this stuff through the roof, a la Walking Dead?

Re: Valiant Comics Price Report- Discuss/Document Valiant Pr
I was bidding on this and I saw that Greg's guide for a CGC 9.8 Turok #47 at $110.00. I put a bid for $45 and thats the most I will spend for this book. I wasn't too crazy about this book even at only 9 graded at 9.8 in the census.
I would not say that this price is cheap. Maybe it is fair and there isn't much demand. So no surprises at $51.00.
Maybe the highest bidder also had a bid for $100.00 and there was no other bidders to spend higher than $51.00. This listing was for 7 days and can easily be found.
How much would you guys bid for this book? I dont think it can be worth $110.00 at this time, but the XO #1 3rd CGC 9.8 worth $110 to me. (didn't win that auction too with a bid for $100)

Re: Valiant Comics Price Report- Discuss/Document Valiant Pr
I think a lot of the hype has done quite a bit to pop the prices of the preunity and regular gold books (X-O 1 9.8 hitting over $100), EW golds going for $75...so I definitely agree with you there, the other books have been stable (the ones that were always rare, like the VVSS books), and the new Valiant prices have already come down. If you look at the 1:20 Variants now, the books can be grabbed around 15-20 shipped, in some cases maybe a little less than $15. I think that's about as cheap as it goes, considering the rarity, what's $15, really?depluto wrote:I check in on this thread every now and then to see what is up, but am I one of the only ones who is not even bothering to look for Valiants right now? Re: Valiant Comics Price Report- Discuss/Document Valiant Pr
Eh, that's the thing about these books. The price can certainly be justified considering the rarity, but it's like the HTF Acclaims like the Shadowmans. I remember someone had a Shadow man#1 vol.3 in 9.8 that took awhile to sell at $100. The price certainly merits it considering how rare it is, but is there enough people that want it? That's why sales are few and far between.....liquidity.....few buyers/few sellers.drmirage wrote:I was bidding on this and I saw that Greg's guide for a CGC 9.8 Turok #47 at $110.00. Re: Valiant Comics Price Report- Discuss/Document Valiant Pr
There have been a few higher prices on Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Flat and X-O Manowar 1 CGC 9.8 (and a few raws) over the past four months. Are you saying those were the high points paid, or what Greg has in his guide?GGSAE wrote:I think a lot of the hype has done quite a bit to pop the prices of the preunity and regular gold books (X-O 1 9.8 hitting over $100), EW golds going for $75...

*SQUEE* no, those are definitely high and a direct result of the relaunch. The EW golds were continuously selling on the boards here for 20-40/piece...the X-O 1 9.8 was a steady 65-70$ range, then the price dropped down below that for awhile as Valiant prices have bottomed. I can't remember exactly what the X-O was going for, but I remember Greg talking about it being a better buy in 9.8, than the Harbinger, and he was certainly correct.bosco685 wrote:There have been a few higher prices on Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Flat and X-O Manowar 1 CGC 9.8 (and a few raws) over the past four months. Re: Valiant Comics Price Report- Discuss/Document Valiant Pr
I was going to say, because ZWH sold one raw X-O 1 in 9.8 condition for I think $130-150, and Ebay had a few Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Flats sell over $100 and then it dipped back down to the $65-$86 range. There was also an X-O 1 CGC 9.8 that sold for around $175-$180 (I think it was the only one at that price level), and then a few sold above $100. Then it dipped back down to the $85-$88 range, as even when you check Ebay-s 3-month completed auctions history there are a number of them still showing. But the sales before this are blown away.GGSAE wrote:*SQUEE* no, those are definitely high and a direct result of the relaunch.
